Hi Guys,

This has probably already been mentioned 100 times...

Im using a 1920x1080 monitor, Q6600 Intel CPU at stock 2.6, 4gb DDR2 Crucial ballistix RAM. ASUS P5KE-wifi. 750 watt Power.

I play:

Battlefield bad company 2
COD4
AVP the new one
COD2

Could you all please be so kind as to advise which is really better?

Ive a budget of MAX £200. Im currently using a 512mb 8800 GT. I would really prefer a card that would use DX11.

I would really apprechiate it.

Thanks

x ;)

Of the 2 the 5830 is the better buy.

BUT you would be better served by saving a bit and getting a 5850 - something like the Asus on pre-order at £225 (or less!). Much more powerful card :)

And whichever you buy get that cpu clocked :D

BTW welcome to the forums!!

Honestly if you have stretched to £200 for a 5830 you should wait a bit longer - set aside the £20 - £30 for a 5850. The 5830 is a complete sham.

With the Q6600 at stock speed, it would most likely bottleneck any graphic card above your 8800GT anyway.

I would say overclock your Q6600 to 3.2GHz-3.6GHz first, then upgrade the graphic card to 5850.

I'd beg to differ, bottlenecks are always exaggerated, althought a faster cpu wouldn't go amiss.

I'll give some example of the significant of CPU speed in relating to fps for games.
HD5870, 4GB Corsair 800Mhz DDR2, 4GB Corsair 1,600Mhz DDR3
Crysis (DirectX 10, 64-Bit, High) at 1,680x1,050

[email protected] (stock speed)=12-35fps
Q6600 [email protected]=24-45fps

[email protected] (stock speed)=19-36fps
E8400 [email protected]=27-48fps
Phenom II X4 965 BE (C3 stepping) @3.4Ghz (stock speed)=23-46fps
Phenom II X4 965 BE (C3 stepping) [email protected] =29-52fps
Core i5 [email protected] (stock speed)=20-50fps
Core i5 750 [email protected]

P.S. Frame rates are shown in min to average

The results may be two months old, but the logic behind it remains the same. Don't just drop down what you 'think' without anything to back up your claim

Thanks for the advise

I would love to OC my cpu. I've tried in the past and failed :( If anyone is near wrexham and wants to help im more than willing to pay lol

I think I will leave it for abit. My 8800GT is working okay (ish) at the moment. Im not expecting a huge difference maybe just the ability to run BFBC2 at high gfx.

:)

5830 is terrible value for money in bang-for-buck terms, so don't get one just because it fits in a budget figure you've set yourself. Either save some cash (for a decent cooler to get that CPU overclocked) and get a 5770, or save a little extra for a 5850.

5850s with 3rd party boards that will only reach 850mhz core are not that exciting either.

Reference 5850 or volt moddable PCB or nothing.

Otherwise the 5830 is actually the better deal with overclocking.

Stock volts most sapphires reach the 975-1000mhz core and them mem is rated for 1250Mhz anyway.

sorry, its at stock, for some reason I thought it was 2.6

Arctic Cooling Freezer version 1 I think is my aftermarket cpu cooler, with the sarctic silver compound

2x2gb

thanks for the help guys

Yeah it dus Its a powercolour it comes preoverclocked as well. Comes with 2 year warrenty ofcourse. I just got lucky n found this.

I mean I could overclock the 5770 just the same im just wondering.
