Much better.

Don't go too light for the carpet though, it'll just show the dirt really easily.

Get something similar to the brown, but a couple of shades lighter.
 
I really like the brown, not letting the wife see this thread as she'll have me painting our room before I know it. Far better looking, dado rail is nice, will have to consider those for our new house :)
 
Yeah that's much better than the yellow, if you use brown then you need a neutral/cream colour to balance it. I have a similar colour scheme in my livingroom and it looks great.

i always find the hard wearing carpets good , ive got a hard wearing carpet in the living room ,its like a light creamy brown but because its hard wearing you see lots of diferent colour browns in it
