Well for the excelent news my partner is pregnant by about 5 weeks, how do i go about telling my dad, my dad is abit old fashioned and has it in his mind that marriage is before kids, i currently live with my partner and been together almost a year, her parents know about it and pretty excited, however my dad can sometimes put a negative on things.

Congratulations. Hope everything goes well.

As for how to tell him, take him down the boozer (if he drinks) or go and visit him at home and break the good news.

Congratulations, and all the best for the future. :D

On the Dad subject he will probebly be a little concerned and a year is not that long together to already be having a child but you just have to reasure him. :)

I wouldn't worry about your Dad, despite he's you're Dad, he can't do anything except have his opinion on the matter which will mean nothing because it won't change the situation.

Congrats.

Personally I would say it was still a bit early to be letting people know but congratulations anyway.

In short, just tell him, better he find out from you than from someone else. Just say "Dad, I have some good news, my girlfriend is pregnant."

If he loves you and you're happy he'll come round eventually, don't worry. I think taking him down the pub is a great idea though!

Will people please for the love of Christ stop using the word "partner". Either she's your GF or your wife. Arggggghhhhh.

Congrats though.

I don't know, if you are in your late 20s, early 30s using the word "girlfriend" seems a bit odd.

Parents can be told anytime, we waited until 12 weeks + until telling any friends though. Congratulations mate. Don't be down on your dad, I thought mine would be like that but he's more excited about being a Grandfather than anything else. It was him who was running about telling people when we told them that everything was fine a few weeks ago after the 20 week scan.

Don't write your dad off, sit him down and have a chat - like he would with you ;)

Son: "Dad, i think it's time we had the talk..."

Dad: "!"
