Got my essential on Friday and having a bit of doubt how much there is to take in. Yeah there's some very common (general knowledge) questions but things like WinNT, NTFS folder Permission, Social engineering attach, Class C Fire hydrogen and etc.

Dont know how if the material I have is enough for this exam...:(

Has anyone here done theirs recently? Any tips or things I should note?

It is fairly basic but yes there is a fair bit to learn. What material do you have, are you doing it through cisco?

I've been provided the SimLabs CD, its an american guy talking with material and then test in between. I'm doing it through my company and they've paid for it.

The actual A+ exam is stupid. I got the same question 3 times! Still, it's a bit of paper for the CV so can't do any harm.

What is the actual pass mark required?

I did mine a couple years back now.. As long as you know what you are doing with PCs and basic networks and have a little bit of common sense you should walk it! :)

I did this in 2005 and found it very easy, Although if you do know a lot about hardware and software it's much easier or you have to do quite a bit of revision and remeber everything

Is it 675 out of 1000 ie 68 correct out of 100 and you pass or are some questions worth more marks than others and if this is the case is it indicated what each question is worth?

Also are the questions more about seeing if you understand the concepts of things in particular or does it ask you how thick a cable is and then give you 4 answers. Essentially do you have to memorise every little thing about everything or is it better to learn how everything works in principal and just try to capture the main information?

All the same questions are at the same mark, so I passed with 72%.

The exam is a mixture of knowing the littlest details in some things and understanding the concept of how things work and why.

Some that threw me off was:
  1. What port number does Telnet Use
  2. What terminal end is used in a Coaxial cable
  3. Which of the following are Class C IP address
  4. Which type of fire extinguisher is used for computer fire

Passed mine 9 years ago, don't think I've ever used anything I had to learn to pass the exam, hope they've improved the exam content.
