The real question being whether she is intolerantly devoted to her own opinions and prejudices at the expense of anything else or whether those opinions will be masked under the guise of "expressing a genuine concern"?

Didn't wanna pass judgement until I could find out what it was she said. Equally stupid on both sides. Being brown (literally, not a fat Scottish man) it's often easy to see whether somebody's being bigoted or not irrespective of how anything's said but what she said wasn't. Well done Brown you dolt, you can't even get that right.

Gotta love the way Brown puts on his cheesy smile and says to the press how it was a 'misunderstanding', as if anyone with half a brain would believe he misunderstood her, lol.

If this hasn't completely blown his chances of re-election, I'd be amazed. I'll bet cameron and clegg are lapping this up. :D

I've been saying since the first weeks of the Nu Labour government under Blair that they are no better than a banana-republic dictatorship. Government by deceit with a total contempt for the electorate, that's what we have suffered for all these years. They even treat the their own backbench MPs with contempt and disdain so you can imagine what the Labour hierarchy really think of the poor suckers who vote for them. They are so far removed from the old-style socialists whose blind support they rely upon. This episode comes as no surprise to me at all.

What does surprise me is that I haven't seen any section of the media pass a view on the fact that a life-long labour supporter had so many issues with which to berate the incumbent Labour leader and PM.

Please Gordon, please don't step down.

Labour are a public relations disaster, brown should have said on the radio interview when he was ambushed with this (gutter journalism at it's worst - yay for the license fee) that he didn't want to offend the lady and bringing this into the public sphere was scandaloud behaviour.

He should have then gone on to say he stood by his words and yes, she holds bigotted views, she's welcome to them and I wouldn't publically put her down for them, a shame the BBC doesn't hold the same standards of public decency.

I can't for one second imagine a world where we all like every person we meet and anyone who thinks our PM should is a bloody idiot to be honest, the real story is his weak defeatist response. That more than anything will count against him - with the few people who think for themselves rather than what the tabloids tell them to care about.

I agree, such an action is disproportionate when simply introducing socialists to the law of unintended consequences, and highlighting numerous examples of well meaning state intervention that has had serious negative unintended consequences, should suffice if they are rational and logical people who are simply misguided.

I shouldn't be so easily swayed, but that smile alone is enough to prevent me voting labour.

He's the dour scot - we know that, we don't care, whatever stupid yuppy public relations tart told him he needed to smile should be taken out and shot.
