Not a bad move considering the low US prices, although due to them lacking the availability, you're not likely to get one cheaper than $550 which would transfer to £360 or even more.

With current availabilty here I wouldn't be at all surprised if the lack of warranty translates into £10 at worst.

You are allow to bring back an amount of stuff without paying import duties, I think its about £300 and I doubt a Customs Guy is going to know how much a 480 would cost. If you checked prices online they don't include local sales tax as each state has its own so you have to find out and figure that in too.

You could always mail it to yourself from the US. If you fill out the customs form 'appropriately' (i.e. dishonestly), you should be okay - not that I would ever recommend any such thing.

Last year I came back from Florida with a cpu, motherboard, memory and a BFG 260GTX. The motherboard was in my suitcase in the hold and the rest in my carry on luggage. I was wetting myself at the scanners and then again at uk customs but no-one batted an eyelid, saved a fortune!

Yes, what we're discussing could be considered dishonest, but it's also been suggested many times that the importing system in the UK is VERY unfair ¬_¬

I mean, isn't it like £12 now to "process" paying a custom fee? Completely unfair!

The mailing myself a gift has been considered. Might be worth taking a punt if the saving is big enough.
