Broken down:

It's not the same driver each time they test a car.

You dont see the whole single fastest lap, but a cut and shut lap made up from footage recorded over all the laps driven.

the lap time itself is the fastest of the day, but the footage is segments of the whole days footage put together to make a lap

they dont have that many cameras to cover all the angles they use.

Never knew that about TG laps.. ruins the excitement of them somewhat.

I did suspect this was happening as the stig goes wide or powerslides in places and I just wonder how can that be as fast.

Also I can remeber the famous epidsode when they drive the trucks with there fragile load in and when hammonds micra falls out of his truck you can see the 2 guys in the back of the trailer who pushed it out.

Is there any basis for this? Granted driver might be different, I'd imagine hardly anyone knows this for 100% certainty, but the cut and shut job with the actual lap?

If you want to see proof watch the Jay Kay lap when he beats Cowell, the seats in the car change twice. It's pretty much the same for stig laps too.
