Hi all,

Can anyone recommend some charcoal. I tried some from the local shop but it burnt so quickly it was useless.

Dont mind paying extra for some quality stuff.

Thanks

use briquettes - weber are good, loads of heat and last a long time. Lumpwood burns quickly. No disrespect to the person above but the lightable bag stuff is a real last resort.

Yeah it was the lightable bag stuff I had which was rubbish. Source for briquettes.... garden centre?

some supermarkets sell briquettes, for weber garden centres is best bet (but unless your cooking things that require very long cooking times most brands would be fine)

Another for briquettes here. Never fails. Lumpwood gives a nice flavour but you have to use half a ton to cook a decent BBQ, and forget doing a joint.

Planning to have a world cup bbq, people are going to be turning up at various times, so would like to have the bbq going as long as possible.

Might borrow a gas bbq if I have to :(

You don't have to. Use briquettes and top up. You don't want your mates thinking you're gay.

My dad has one and you might as well grill the food tbh. You can add various smoking products but it's just not the same as a proper BBQ :).

Briquettes last longer, have a more even temperature then lumpwood and you don’t have to use so many. Buy them in the supermarket or garden centre in large bags. It really doesn’t matter where you get them as the so called “quality” is about the same everywhere.

I'm just going to echo what's said above and use the briquettes. Although I do cheat when I do a bbq and get one of the lightable bags first, let that settle for about 10 mins then start putting on the briquettes.

We've used the Weber briquettes, got them from the local gardening store. They are more expensive but they are very good! They burn for ages at a good heat, we also re-use them by chucking them in a wheelbarrow full of water to cool them down, then dry them out again.
