Meet the Penetrator

I suppose it would make it easier to create paths of airflow in your case rather than having it all swirling around hoping that +ve and -ve pressure will send it in the right direction. I'm sure there are suitable applications, but I can't think of any lol

Impressive. Howeverwhy do I feel all dirty and have the need to clear internet logs when the word "penetrator" is used? :D

I hate it when they do things like these demonstrations. Firstly, air going in a different direction when out in the open, and where the air will go, in a case aren't the same, does it matter? In that case in the vid the air will obviously change direction almost instantly after it enters the case so how is it helping? Who knows.

Same with the smoke air diffusing pattern in the first link, is it a slower fan in the second picture so the smoke is just naturally diffusing less, is the first one so fast and so loud, and thats whats responsible for the narrow stream?

Without those questions answered, its just marketing gimmicks and rubbish, it might be better or it might not, but the picture and vid don't prove anything at all, except which fan to buy if you want to keep a balloon hovering for some reason, in which case, I can thoroughly recommend that fan, woo.

SFF cases are way too small and far too stuffed for this to make -any- difference whatsoever. In this case, anything besides air volume, static pressure and speed is irrelevant when it comes to fans. (and even those things negligible in most cases) Quite simply, the instant air gets in it will fill the thing and get redirected all over the place in a matter of milliseconds. Furthermore, the pressure created within the case and the air curving erratically around every component and cable will make sure to disrupt the desired effect. There can be no coherent/elaborate airflow pattern in that environment.

It would be like attempting to form a nice, undisturbed whirlpool in a bathtub while there's a fat bloke having seizures in it.

In short, obviously a gimmick. Certainly hokum in this case and questionably beneficial even with full size ones. Cool balloon skillz though :p

I can imagine once that column of air actually hits anything it will completly destroy any airflow because it will just create loads of turbulence

Looks like a brilliant idea! Do you think it would pull air with the same effect? Then if placed at the rear of the case it would pull directly from across the mobo?
