Follow on from Steam sales, should win7 be 100% supported?

Hmm, windows 7 isn't very far behind there now :p But I think it's up to the customer to make sure their PCs are up to the task.

Everyone i Know is on Win 7 now, Think Microsoft played a blinder making the best OS ever available for pre-order for sub £50. Most of the people i know bought it at this price to replace their dodgey XP's

No steam should have clear instructions on the specs of the game.. Such as TESTED on blah blah blah.

It's called CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!!!!!

We pay for the food they put in their childrens mouth, so show us some frickin customer service.

Personally I think if it's on Steam, it should work on all Windows OS's, I've voiced this in the past and was shot down by many.

It would be nice if games had more complete sys specs sometimes. I got Civ III for my netbook, only to find it a) took a load of messing around to work on Win 7 and even after that b) it just won't work properly on a screen with a v res lower than 768px, so was useless on my 1024x600 netbook.

It would have been nice if the specs had included '1024x768 minimum resolution screen'.

Video: DirectX® 8.0a-compatible video card (must be able to display 1024x768x16 bit)

...from the official specs on publishers website: http://support.2kgames.com/help/take2_games/q213 . Would be nice if that was on Steam though, I agree.

Well since Steam offers no refunds, it makes financial sense to keep the specs a little conduluded.

As i said, customer service should take priority.

just going by steam survey.

but its good to see the 64bit version of win7 in 2nd place, atleast we are moving forwards now.

Actually if you look at the survey, while XP is the most popular single OS, XP users are in the minority. Less than 40% of Steam users use XP so saying "most people still use xp" is no longer a valid statement.

If they do make them all 7 compatible, the price should reflect the extra work it is to accomplish that. If not, it should be clearly stated that the game doesn't work on some current operating systems, though the onus is on the customer to check that they're buyng the correct product.

I have never saw Asda do this with ANY of their games - Confused.

Get real you bigot.

Do you think that steam should check that the games they are selling are compatible with win7?

With Windows 7 now being the OS of choice and with XP being unsupported, I think it is quite cheeky that Steam can sell games when they may never work on Windows 7.

What games out of interest? I've never had had an issue with anything on Win7, even older titles.

No they shouldn't have too, but what they should do is offer refunds for games that don't work if you try all the various workarounds.

Well, firstly i'm pretty sure last time i filled in the steam survey that Win 7 wasn't the most popular OS for steam users. It was still XP.

And the second thing is that it's not really up to Steam to determine the requirements of the games they sell. They are effectively just a shop, it's up to you as the consumer to check the specs of the games you buy.

Ultimately, the companies that actually make the games are the ones that would have to do what you're asking. And there's simply no incentive for them to spend money on a whole new cycle of system testing to determine if a game that's years old and they have no interest in supporting anymore will work on Win7.

tbh i can't really think of any games i've tried to play on Win 7 64bit that i've had any real problems with. I couldn't get the intro to Mafia to run, but a quick google and download of a new codec sorted that. Other than that, my old ps2 pad adaptor doesn't work with 64bit windows, so i had to fork out £5 for a new one that does work, but that's pretty much it as far as compatibility problems go for me.

Well yeah that's the point - if I was buying in a shop that would be on the box, if i'm buying on Steam it should be there, I shouldn't be expected to have to search other websites just to make sure the system specs Steam provided aren't only half complete :p

only if they explicitly said it would work on your os.

otherwise like all software it's up to you to make sure you meet the specs.
