Some of the supermarket stuff can be pretty bad. Lots of smoke which is annoying and messes with the flavour of the food.
Best I've found in the shops near me was Big K stuff from Waitrose

Reusing charcoal? WtfWe've used the Weber briquettes, got them from the local gardening store. They are more expensive but they are very good! They burn for ages at a good heat, we also re-use them by chucking them in a wheelbarrow full of water to cool them down, then dry them out again.
