Would you do this for 5.95 per hour?

B) I would accept any work if I did not have a job, Always have and always will. I do not belive people when they say they can not find a job. what they really mean is they can't find a job they like, or they have not been trying or looking.

If only it was that black and white... I only found a job by moving to another area (other than the odd 6 week temp jobs) and not everyone has the luxury of being able to move... thats despite having more interview requests in a month than I could fit in (30+). Mostly due to 2 factors, massive number of people in that area applying for jobs at the time so they could cherry pick candidates and however much I tried to dumb down my CV for more basic jobs they thought I was overqualified and wouldn't stick around.

Would rather work for myself doing other things but if I was unable to do what I wanted and this was the only income available then Damn right I would.

I'm also of the opinion that there is work for everyone out there, just depends how low you have to go to get it.

If you are up **** creek without a paddle, then cleaning toilets for minimum wage it is!
None of this dole money ********, that should be kept for people who "physically" cannot work

If there weren't the immigrants, then Royal Mail would have to offer better money and/or T&Cs.

Hooray for Labour's open door immigration policy, totally screwing the working class - the very people the Labour party is supposed to be for.

They can't stop it, can they? I thought it was part of European law that you can't stop people from the Euro zone entering any member country to settle and find work?

I would but problem with that wage is, you are never going to be able to afford a mortgage unless you lived with a partner who made a lot more and thus would have to rent, looking at taking home £200 with full time work.

Yes.
A) it is casual work so will be low paid.

B) I would accept any work if I did not have a job, Always have and always will. I do not believe people when they say they can not find a job. what they really mean is they can't find a job they like, or they have not been trying or looking hard enough.

That's a very blanket statement (B) Acid. I thought you knew better than that.

Still, I share the ethic which was the main point of your post. It's just sad that at the moment, the economy is in such a fragile state that employers have to and will get away with doing this.

I tried to dumb down my CV for more basic jobs they thought I was overqualified and wouldn't stick around.

Then you dumb it down more. It is easy to dumb down a cv, just lie and say you have been travelling or something.
Certain places are always crying out for workers. Hard manual labour jobs and places like slaughter houses. Just takes people to go and find them and go to every agency in person.
And get a pushbike/moped so you can include a 15-20mile radius.

For those wages quoted...nightshift... should be double...at least £10 ph Unsociable hours...

However i suspect some employers take advantage of:

a) The open house that is the UK and different cultures attitude to "what is fair" with reference to working life.

b) Market forces

Profit before people ofc..... But hey dont get mad if you cant beat em join em... become your own employer and you can exploit people too... its all good
/sarcasm.

I wouldnt waste my time doing this, you can get paid that working 9-6 in retail instead.

I love the way they really sell the position to you:

You’ll work for up to 12 weeks, as and when required, with no fixed shift pattern or guaranteed hours. However a typical shift would be 22:00 - 06:30.

Working in a loud, busy factory-style environment, you’ll be standing for long periods of time

You need to consider how you will get to work for your shift, as public transport may not be available early or late in the day.

Does this appeal to you?

lulz

I'd do that over being unemployed.

This is my viewpoint. I used to work from 9.30am till 11pm at thorpe park for £5.20 an hour before i got my act together and went to university. Yes it was more fun than the job in the op would be, but i got by on the wages and despite being knackered all the time i still managed to have a life.

[EDIT] As Fox says though, there's likely better jobs with better pay and more manageable hours available over it, if it was the absolute last choice over being unemployed though, i'd take it.

They paid me £9.20 an hour for similar work in 2008\9...

That aside, I don't think this is a good example to bleat on about low wages, you're literally chucking a few types of items in different trolleys or boxes. Maybe pushing a few warehouse containers around. Mindless work that would probably put most people to sleep.

I would apply if I wasn't 200 miles away from the location :p

I'm probably going to make myself very unpopular here, but...

If given the choice between a low-paid, physical job - that I'm blatantly not suited for - or the dole, I would (and have) take the dole route.

At least you can read some books and try to get some qualifications whilst you're on hand-outs. With a low-paid, long hours job, you're much more likely to get stuck in a rut, and have no time for studying or learning.

You must be able to lift and carry mailbags and boxes weighing up to 11kg and push containers weighing up to 250kg.
Does this appeal to you? ... If so, this position may be for you.

Heh

Edit: Damn, beaten!
