I got a 5850 a couple of days ago and overclocked it to 880/1300 stable using AMD GPU Clock Tool on the 10.3 drivers. I've since installed the 10.4 drivers today and tried the same overclock but the screen just fills with grey vertical lines and I have to restart the PC. Even when I have the card at 800/1100 the PC still crashes.

I've just gone back to the old drivers and everything is fine at 880/1300.

Any ideas what's going on with the 10.4s?

Use MSI afterburner and give the GPU a bit more juice. Overclocking throws you curve balls sometimes its how it is.

I've got MSI afterburner but can't seem to unlock the over voltage tool, I've gone into settings and checked the unlock box but I still can't seem to change the settings. I figured it might have something to do with the card I have (XFX) blocking overvolting but that's just a guess.

I had to lower my OC for playing BFBC2 since installing 10.4 (Previews)

Always played @ 1000/1200 (1.25v) now i have to run @ 950/1200 (1.237v) or even 850/1200 (1.087v) (Temps are always fine)

Normally (When testing an OC) i would get the dialogue box saying 'ATI driver has recovered' and i could drop the clocks, Recently i just get a random white screen, Only happens to the 3D side, I can alt tab back to desktop but, I need to restart the 3D app.

Something not right with these, 10.3's were more stable but, Don't have the fix for loading times in BFBC2.

meh most likely my card, but when i try changing core clocks and the like in msi afterburner, and click apply, it just jumps back to default. Can't unlock voltage control either.

I think* you may need to flash another BIOS to your card to enable higher OC's and Volt control.

I flashed mine with the asus BIOS.

You using version 1.51?

^Exactly the same as mine. Guess our cards just dont support voltage controls.. suck..
On a different note, OC my 5850 to 800/1200 and did about 1hr 4mins on furmark and no crashes and the highest the temps got were 71c, would you say this is stable?

What card exactly did you get? The Asus direct cu cards have voltage control in the program it comes with but you can't unlock it in msi due to it not actually being reference design. If that's the card you've got.
