9ff GT9R crashes in the UK

NO HOTLINKING
It was the silence that was unnerving. That was partly because just moments earlier the 9ff GT9R was howling at such ridiculous decibels that the noise meter must have melted its circuitry, and also because a period of silence, however fleeting, nearly always means trouble. And trouble it was.

I'm not really a fan of this car but I have read plenty about 9ff, brake failure at 220mph must be... interesting!

Ouch, that looks expensive. And very scary!

Glad nobody was hurt though. Not sure what they deem rebuildable, but I doubt there's much there that can be re-used apart from some of the mechanics!

Chicken Tonight?

This article only appeared on evo webby today although apparently it happened back on 4th April & the most recent post in the thread you linked is from 18th March!?! I'm half expecting Marty McFly to walk in & tell me that I need to follow him!

never said it was a problem

just pointing out we'd discussed it before :)

Evo didnt actually say what day it happened. Somehow i dont think 9FF have had many GT9Rs crash into a banking after having their brakes fail at 220mph :p

and heres the real clue

VMax might be based on a simple philosophy, but this annual event is well-run and always has safety teams present. They were immediately on the scene and in minutes the air ambulance had landed. With the drama over, the otherwise enjoyable day continued, and it was studded with some great machinery. A Ruf CTR3, Mercedes SLR 722 McLaren, Ferrari 599, Murciélago SV, numerous Porsches and a pair of NSXs were amongst a healthy and broad spread of entrants

straight from the evo artcile :p

It appears so!

I'm suprised evo bothered with this news considering its over a month out of date, curious.

Evo is a monthly magazine.

most of the content on the website is just whats in the magazine, hence they usually are about a month behind :)

Evo have stepped up the online content massively since driverrepublics departure.
Nick Trott has been very active to get lots of extra pictures, videos & discussion uploaded for every magazine feature & of course Chris Harris will be working his magic in front of the camera aplenty. Unfortunately the content is never in sync with the magazine, despite articles in print stating to check online for video footage plus the news section appears to be quite out of date!

the news section is pretty much whats in the mag. Its the video section like you say thats had all the effort put into keeping it fresh.

Development ceramic discs failing?

Granted we don't have all the facts so this is pure speculation, but if there was no manufacturing defect, the composite material was of sound structure, then I highly doubt the actual ceramic disc failed.

But as ever this is a system and little things have a way of causing big problems, in all aspects of engineering :D

The unexpected star of the show was an innocent-looking 996 Turbo Cabriolet owned by a client of 9ff’s. The deep, resonating thrum of its engine at idle should have given the game away – it was equipped with a 4-litre, 910bhp motor, a conversion known as the 9ff TRC 91. There was genuine shock when this old 996 Cab also passed the timing beam at 222mph.
 Holy Cow!

Would like to see some pictures/footage of that.
