***Official Halo Reach Beta Thread***

What book would you recommend I start with? Sorry if it's a dumb question but I didn't even know there were any novels

It would have to be the Fall of Reach because it sets up all the back story for the characters. Just really read them in the order they were released, but you could probably miss out Halo: The Flood if you really wanted, since it is just a retelling of what happend in Halo 1.

slightly off topic question, but as a halo 3 player with tons of xp, if i moved to ODST or the new reach will my service record carry over from halo 3 or would i have to level up again?

ODST multiplayer and Halo 3 multiplayer are the one and the same (the Halo 3 multiplayer component comes on its own disc separate to the ODST campaign and firefight modes). However, Reach is a totally new and unique game with its own ranking system and hierarchy, so obviously everyone starts from scratch on that.

First things first. I want you to immediately tell us what the resolution is, and if it's using some form of edge-detect anti-aliasing. This is very important to me for some reason, because the fools at beyond3d aren't doing anything. :p

Eurogamer released a bunch of their own screenshots today, it seems the game actually uses anti-aliasing, but only on certain scenes, much like what Resident Evil 5 does. (screenshots here)

These two screenshots have anti-aliasing

But these two screenshots don't

I would have preferred a more consistent approach, but it's better than nothing and it's still a humongous improvement over Halo 3/ODST.

it uses the same screenshot system as halo 3, the screens are taken in 1080p with AA, but thats not the settings it uses for playing ingame, its only for when it renders screen shots. those last 2 would have been taken using a capture card and not the screenshot system.

They were taken using a capture card, aliasing can still be seen in the upper shots, it's just not as prevalent. Look at the doorway frame to the left of the blue spartan in the top shot for example, it's covered with 2xAA. The flag in the second shot also exhibits slight aliasing. It is quite evidently nowhere near the quality of 1080 scaled down with AA, but still significantly higher than non-aliased scenes.

It's not the Bungie screenshot tool.

Adaptive AA based on particle effects?

First two screens have no action. The second two do.

Kinda excited about this. Never liked the SP after Halo:CE, multiplayer was still solid, but stopped when MW1 came out.

Got ODST on the rental list, so hopefully it will be picked for me and come for Tuesday.

you will have to forgive the extreamly bad qaulity, but i do not have bungie pro atm.(i also wouldnt go full screen)

i was trying to stop the flag carrier with my rocket launcher and my team mate armor locked right near him and this happened...
