Banks ... which one ?

Doesn't help, but I really like Barclays:D Never had any problems..

This isnt why i want to move but i HATE that stupid pinsentry system i have to use. Takes the convience out of online banking IMO ....

+ im fed up of talking to call centres abroad, makes me angry before ive evan started to talk to them

Luck of the draw.

I'm student banking with HSBC and haven't had a problem and I've gone £100 over my overdraft limit without incurring charges.

I also have a credit card with First Direct and their customer service is nothing short of elite.

Tbh there isn't anywhere enough information here to make a decision. Banks have many purposes and facilities, and we'd need to know what you want to use it for.

Is this a bank for Direct Debits, or for you to pay salary into and use to spend? Do you expect to go overdrawn regularly, and if so by how much? Do you have deposits that you expect interest on?

Without information like this you can't really make an informed decision on anything other than a brand.

First direct always win awards for customer service, either them or HSBC, make sure you go Plus though if you do.

First Direct are superb. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I actually worked for them for a (very) brief period and was very impressed with everything they do.*

* including receiving a card through my door wishing me a happy first day! :D

yea.. I really hate that pinsentry system too!
that's why I've stopped doing online banking altogether. The branch in Liverpool city center is a big pain in the backside. Always seems to have a long queue with 3 cashiers and 20 empty booths. Barclays also charges if you request for statements I believe.

am also with Nationwide who so far seems great. will eventually move everything over to Nationwide

Hi

This bank will have my salary paid into
I use this account to pay for everything on card
All my direct debits come out of this account
I dont need an overdraft
i never go overdrawn really but its nice if that on the odd occasion i go overdrawn by say £5 by mistake i dont get charged £500 lol
I dont have any savings to go into this account

Thanks :)

I didnt really meen it like that ;) just wondered if it was worth doing ... alliance & leicester offer £100 if you move your standing orders and can put more than £500 into the account each month which seems easy considering i want it to be my main bank account

The online system and statements are crap compared to the HSBC. Although I still use my A+L as my current account - I'm hoping that when they go to Santander systems it will improve.

If you do go for them remember Quidco too (another £45). I have a Halifax account I opened at same time which gives me £5 a month just for having my wages paid into it (min £1000 a month to qualify for the reward)

I still have my HSBC account open as it's linked to my investdirect share dealing account.

Probably not what you want to hear, but i have had no problems with Barclays. They have been as good as gold to me :)

I've used a few of the big name high street banks over the years and I've yet to find one with a more honest and transparent service than the Co-op Bank.

Been with them for a couple of years now and not had any issues.
