Asus rampage III Extreme

ahh, i have already purchased the the megashadow but i took the measurements, from the end of the process till the end of the fan edge( 2 noctua fans in pnp config) its 8.4cm as in :

------- | |
| | | | <---- Fan
------- |___|

|___________|
8.4 cm

so i guess it should be fine. am planning no fitting the triple flow fan also that came with the ram. if worse comes to ill remove the head spreaders of the first stick of ram.

i cant get drawing right it keeps moving the characters around but you get ma point

You have a Biostar x58 don't you?

Yes.

going to put it up for sale soon, its been flashed to the latest bios wich adds gulftown full support and runs my i7 @4.2HT perfectly aswell as having a modded slic 2.1 bios added :)

and why to your question lol ? or do you think its not worth it over this board the premium ect ?

Not at all, I was gonna say that you're in for a treat! :D

few things im worryed about though with this RE3 ;)

only 1 Lan port ?????
PCI E ports 1 and 3 only supply 16x ? when in crossfire or sli ect
so if i use 1 and 3 its going to block the only pci port on the board and there for i wont be able to use my azuntech prelude 7.1 soundcard.

they should have made PCI E 1 and 2 16x....

few niggles and is it really worth the premium over my current x58 board ? and should i realisticly spend the money on a new case and custom water cooling loop setup ?

going to read a few more reviews lol

the + side of things im hopeing this board will be able to use my memory to its full speed 1600 is what im useing at 7.7.7.21 T1 on a board that should be able to let me run my memory at 2200 OCZ blades ect. but it just refuses lol

It is so much better at handling high memory clocks than the Biostar. I can never get 1600mhz properly stable on mine whereas the Rampage handles it fine at cas 8. The ram is a set of 1333mhz ocz platinums.

You could still use the 1st and second slot. Using my GTX260 to test, there wasn't a big performance impact when placed in the x8 slot. Just one or two FPS that wouldn't be noticeable when running two cards. Saying that, the only performance hit was in Far Cry 2 out of the games I tested.

hmm well if we rule out the ports ect...
i cant see the board being the issue i think your biostar has issues with your memory.
becuse i can run my memory 3x2 OCZ 2200 @1600 7.7.7.21 without any issues at all.

but hopefully this RE3 will let me run my cpu @4.2HT with my memory at 2200. default.
though im not even sure 2200 default will beat 1600 with tight timeings cause its with quadcore loose timeings benifited more but with i7 tighter seems to be faster lol

ohh what to do lol

gotta find some blanking plugs for usb so i can attempt to make it look like my case is only "meant" to have 2 usbs.. Make a revision please asus and add another usb header...

helios , simulator man. i am bit panicked at the moment. i got this from ocuk :
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-201-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1392

its 3 dimms of 2 gb of the model (CMG6GX3M3A2000C8)

on the vendor list on page 6/8 for 2000 mhz corsair has one type and it says only up to 4 gb is this correct, can some1 explain to me ?

how is it possible a motherboard of this standard wont support 6gb ? i mean the ud7 supports all 6

can some1 get back to me asap, am constantly checking

i will also point out the corsair air flow fan will not fit this motherboard as it only has clips one end of each memory slot.

The other end is "click in" like on my Rampage Gene

Im having the same problem, just checked the vendor list and my memory doesnt seem to be supported :/

3x2 of this memory = OCZ 2000 Blades memory = OCZ3B2000C9LV2G

the reason i bought this memory was becuse there fantastic clockers and the ic chips on these modules are the same ic`s that are on the corsair dominator GT`s.

but for some weird reason there not supported on this board.

this is a whole list of issues, the airflow fan doesnt fit.

the rams is another issue, i fail to understand how it can only read 4 gb out of the 6 gb corsair ram, am sure we are reading the list wrong, maybe some1 with some insight could help us.

as for u virus2k there might be a slight possibility ur ram model has been renamed which means it can be under a different name on the list u should check that.

Craign is there no way to fix up the fan or it would be too loose ?

The biostar board were notorious for not being able to clock ram speed very well and running a high multiplier was always a problem. You must have been lucky. At least, the Rampage proved better for me in that area :).

As for memory compatibility, I wouldn't worry about it but don't take my word for it.

yeah i really want to believe helios right now. cause i fail to believe after all this wait this is the list compatibility they give. its MUST be a mistake it cant onl read 4 gb of my ram and it cant not read the ocz , well just wait and see.,....

I don't see any reason why one a set of RAM wouldn't be compatible with the board. Afterall the Rampage is targetting users with those types of RAM anyway so they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if it didn't support high end Corsair/OCZ modules.

no the airflow fan will not fit at all

Compatibility lists for ram are never extensive and they only ever test a few diff types of ram, i cant imagine any ram would not work.
