Hi guys,

First of all let me start by saying that I'm not after medical advice in anyway.

I don't know anything about blood glucose meters, but I think I may have hypoglycemia and was thinking about buying a meter to test my levels when symptoms start to appear.

I'm sure there's people who know about the meters on here, so could you please recommend me a meter to buy that'd be ideal for this sort of testing?

Cheers

Or perhaps go to a doctor instead of self diagnosing?

Yeah that is an option but it'd just be easier for me to buy a meter and test it as then I'd know.

If the readings over a few days were fine then I'd go to see my doctor and let him know what's happening and find out why I'm getting the symptoms.

..........

You think somethings wrong, so take a test yourself, which you don't really know the best tools, you'd then have to interpret yourself, and assume of course that it's accurate because you may have other symptoms which you don't realize you had?

Sounds... wise?

The main thing I want ruled out is hypoglycemia, with a glucose tester I will be able to monitor it for most of the day which will be ideal!

Now back on topic please.

But, we're telling you that anything like this is dangerous, and really and truly you should go to a doctor, who can rule that out for you, and give you general advice.

Hypoglycemia is often treated by a change in diet and doesn't require medication, that's why I don't feel the need to go and see a doctor straight away.

I want a meter to also check for spikes, in the day, afternoon, night etc.

Well if you don't go, we can't force you, and I'm not trying to be awkward, or "OH NOEZ MEDICAL THREAD!" I'm simply saying that for peace of mind, the doctors best.

They won't force treatment upon you, but they can rule out anything serious and give you far better results.

Imagine if you believe you have it, change your diet, but then in 6 months find out its something far worse, or you don't even have anything and you've done all this for nothing!

Yes but if it isnt treated correctly can also be life threatening?!

Ah forget it. I ask for help and just get jumped on.

Please lock it mods.

We're not jumping on you. We're trying to tell you that it can be a serious condition, you can get it checked out for FREE by a doctor, who can tell you really what you've got without risking mis diagnosing yourself.

There's a reason they go to medical school and learn what they do.

In other words, better to get it checked out by a professional, it isn't like you're asking for spot cream!

Yeah I will make an appointment. I have had these symptoms for years anyway, but yeah I guess it'd put my mind at rest.

Ok, I agree with everyone else here if you truly believe that you are unwell seek medical advice. On the other hand places like Boots used to also run these tests; possibly for a small fee (I can't be certain).

Due to this being blood sugar related, do not just suddenly change your diet or exercises regime. You need medical advice beforehand, as changing diet or exercise patterns can greatly affect the sugar levels.

Gl at the docs.

Gamer T, being diabetic myself I can vouch for the ease of use and accuracy of these machines. You can pick up something like this for a little as a tenner if you Google it.

Expect to be between 4 & 8 on the meter. Anything outside 4 & 8 may be worth a visit to the quack. Also, don't do checks first thing in the morning or after food as the results will be misrepresentative.

Can somebody spec me some tools for brain surgery please?
I think I may have a brain tumor so I might as well have a look in, see if I can see the tumor and then perhaps go to the docs.

can someone write me a 'scrip for some levothyroxine? i think i might be hypothyroidic and i cba to go to the doctor to get checked - if i feel better after taking the drugs i'll go to the Doc, i promise!

Was going to recommend the same one myself - what I'm using at the moment :)

I was actually going to buy one in Hong Kong - they cost £70 there
