It's been about 2 years since I've done anything with my CV and I've recently updated it. The problem is that it's now about 3 pages long. I could use a little help with tips on how to compress it etc. Any ideas would be great, or perhaps an example of a better formatted CV.

The cv is purely for legal work, by the way.

I had a simliar issue with my cv being too long (or rather too short as I cut things out to get it to 2 pages)

When I rewrote my cv I used narrower margins which worked really well for a start. I now had a lot of information crammed into 2 pages without it looking too bad.

It actually worked too. After months of failed success I got the first job I applied for and I start in a top 5 Medico Legal company on Tuesday

I wish it were.

Margins, will do. What do people think about using two columns next to one another on the same page to cut things down.

Adjust the margins, you want to be able to cram as much as you can into those 2 pages.

A lot of agencies and employers don't like CVs in pdf form as they like to modify them especially agencies who remove your contact details and add their logo etc

I wouldn't open your CV after your contact info with qualifications, write a paragraph about you and what you're looking for

good for you, and good luck!

not read it, but thought i would say if you have decent content to take it over 2 pages, so what?
Mine is around about 3 pages, sometimes creeping onto 4 depending on what the application is for. All on it is relevent info and not just page filling crap.
Never been told to shorten it by an agency or anyone else

You seem to have a lot of information that either isn't needed or could be merged with other bits IMO.

For example your exchange semester, why a seperate entry? Just mention it with the main Degree, same with your legal experience (why have something you didn't end up doing in the end - supreme court) and again with the previous experience, I would merge that into one paragraph or entry.

At the moment your CV at first glance looks like you have years in industry, whereas in fact it's just a few years spread out, you could easily fit all that information on to 2 pages.

However maybe i'm talking out of my **** :p

How many years work experience do you have? From reading the CV he looks like he has actually done a degree and had a few months doing bits and pieces, some volunteer work and some law work.

Cut out the References section, people will assume references are available upon request, it's only worth putting in if you actually want to list some references.

Consider lowering the font size slightly.

Having National University of Singapore under "Other Experience" is arguably not necessary as you've already listed it under Education. I can see why you've done it though, as you want to promote skills outside of academia.

As an aside, I can't believe I've never considered adjusting the margins on my CV :o
