Which meter for blood sugar levels?

Was going to recommend the same one myself - what I'm using at the moment :)

I was actually going to buy one in Hong Kong - they cost £70 there

I had one similar to that about 6-7 months ago, but only had about 10 strips with it so I couldn't really test it how I wanted to test it.

The results were always between 4 and 8. I wasn't sure if I was using the right meter, not sure if they differ in anyway so I kind of disregarded the results, hence asking for one here that would be good for suspected low blood sugar.

Hi guys,

First of all let me start by saying that I'm not after medical advice in anyway.

I don't know anything about blood glucose meters, but I think I may have hypoglycemia and was thinking about buying a meter to test my levels when symptoms start to appear.

I'm sure there's people who know about the meters on here, so could you please recommend me a meter to buy that'd be ideal for this sort of testing?

Cheers
Accu-check Nano or Aviva. £15 ish from Boots or Lloyds.

I'd suggest getting yourself to a Llloyds Pharmacy really, they'll test your blood sugar for you. Better than spending £15 on a meter.

Visit lloyds, thats where I found it I was diabetic.

As for the nano its a fantastic meter and I have found it very accurate with good features. Im now using a countour usb. You can pick up a nano kit for £6-7

So guys, if I did buy a meter and tested as needed and the results were in the normal range (I believe lower than 3.3mmol is hypo) would it be safe to say I didn't have hypoglycemia ?

Take it from the people on here, they're trying to help. You've got advice from a couple of people who monitor their blood sugar day in, day out, because they're diabetic.

Stop trying to self diagnose when you're not really sure what you're looking for, and go to the doctor.

So you quite clearly do not know what you are looking for or the context to apply it in. Go to your GP ...

Yeah I will go to see the Doc. I just don't want to be sent for a load of tests to be honest.

these loads of tests will probably endup being the blood-sugar-test that you're so keen to administer yourself, and a blood-test, which is always a good thing.

The tests you'd get sent for would be just more accurate versions of the tests you'd get from the blood meter really. When I got sent for my blood sugar test I wasn't allowed to eat anything after 11pm the night before so that if my blood sugar was above 7mmols at the blood test then I had problems. The tests your GP might send you for will cost you nothing and if it turns out you've got diabetes or another issue then any meters you'd need would be free as well.

Meh, the meters only cost about £10 anyway! :p I will still go and see the doc though. :)

Mods close now please.
