Thinking of joining myself just wondering how much people are paying monthly and what is about the average price going for joining fee, induction, monthly fee ?

I pay £15 a month. Very good deal imo. I did pay for the year up front which made it cheaper otherwise it would've been £20 p/m. No induction/joining fee for that either.

My old gym was £30 p/m but that was a poor gym. Normal £50 induction fee, but I joined during one of the promo months when there was no fee.

The gym I went to at uni was around the £15 mark and was an excellent gym. Uni gym's often are a very good standard and if you are a student there can be cheap as chips.

Couple of other gyms in my area are £45 and £32 p/m, but the £45 one includes use of the pool/sauna and a lot of classes thrown in for free as well.

Hope that helps!

£19.30/month for local council gym with no free barbells although there's a smith and dumbbells up to 30kg
£40/year for uni gym with loads of equipment :D

Id pay more for a better equipped gym although I dont want to be tied into a 12 month contract, and as I dont really have much money I dont want to spend more on local gyms when I can go to uni gym 24weeks of the year during term time (cant be bothered with the 1 hour train journey/walk each way just to go to the gym)

£0 per month.

Edit; Actually I should explain this. It's a family owned gym so do not get charged. Although I would be willing to pay up to say £30 a month as it's a fairy well equipped gym!

at that price it would be cheaper to just build your own gym, but its peoples own preferences that count

But you probably wouldn't be able to build a swimming pool for the same sort of money or may not have the space.

For me it's about £20 per month although that's a deal for households so my flatmate and I get a reduced rate, I think it would be around £30 per month each without that.

Yeah, if you paid out 3 or 4 years worth for your home gym.
Good kit isn't cheap, neither is pure weight in plates or dumbells :p

3 or 4 years is a good investment for a lifetime gym, if of course people stick to it for the distance.

I pay £15 a month for work gym and will probably get a discounted membership from a new gym opening near by (bloke who won bodybuilding comp a few weeks ago should have it open soon now that he has the keys to unit!), which will work out at £25 a month.

Of course it is, but to say you are better off getting a home gym instead of £40 a month is silly.
Virgin would also give access to classes and in most cases a pool, sauna and steam room.
There are huge benefits to paying for a lifestyle gym, as long as you make use of it.

I pay £36 a month at DW fitness in nottingham, formally JJB. Best gym i've used so far DB upto 50kg loads of bars, plates, benches, cages, etc.

Paid as much as £52 a month, and as little as £15 in the past. The £15 gym was actually better than the £52 gym. So the price doesn't also reflect how good the gym is.

How well equipped are your gyms guys? It's all well saying £xx a month, but what do you get for that. What type of equipment do they have and such?

Interesting

Is 29 GBP joining fee + 49 to 54gbp per month (offpeak hours) a lot of money for the following ?

Where are you located mate? Prices vary a lot over the country (as with almost everything).

Uni gym - £5 induction - £24 p/m
Leisure Center at home - £35 p/m, no induction fee but month upfront, plus that months rent.

One dedicated bench for bench press, one (proper) rack for bench/squats etc, one bar holder/rack that can be used, a (knackered) Smith machine, five or six Olympic barbells, two or three E-Z curl bars, one of the bars that goes round the body for farmers walks etc but that belongs to a member of the gym. One leg press, one cable crossover machine, a pull-up/dips station and five moveable benches (three adjustable), a fair selection of plates (although nothing higher than 25kg) and a selection of dumbbells which go up to 40kg. That's about all in the weights room apart from some Swiss balls and a step-up platform.

There's also a cardio room which has a selection of weights machines but I don't often venture in there. There's also a swimming pool, exercise hall, tennis courts, running track and rugby pitches. I've probably missed a few other things as I don't tend to use them.
