any idea why my monitor is stuck at 59hz?

i have a dell 2209wa and for some reason it has the option for 60hz in the nvidia settings but each time i try to change it the setting goes back to 59hz again

i dont think its a driver problem as its been like it for a long time, my graphics card is a gtx295 and im running win7 64bit if it matters

I believe that it is a problem with windows 7 that microsoft have still yet to fix.
Do a Google search and you see how many people have the same problem.

The real problem is nvidia drivers with win7.
as ati don't have this problem at all.
I had this problem while back, as when it was on 59hz, i would get bad stutters in pro evo 10.

so what have to do, is set your screen res to 1440x900 (i think it was that, round the 1400x mark anyways, but pretty sure it was 1400x) then set you're screen res to 60hz that res don't look to bad really if you got a 28" screen .
You're get used to it. if not, then just set it to what you like, then back to 1400x when you plays games, so you can choose 60hz
I can't check, as i'm using a ATI card now.

The issue is not related to the gfx card drivers, users of Ati, intel, and nv are all effected.
It's down to the way certain monitors report the refresh rate to windows7. It's possible with time the gfx card manufacturers will override Microsofts settings too.

There are workarounds, such as powerbars, different cable type.. vga/dvi etc..
try this..
- Go to Nvidia Control Panel
- Go to Add resolution
- Create Custom Resolution
- Click on Timing
- Click on Manual
- Set refresh rate to 60.001 Hz

Thats worth a try.
I have only had this issue my self with nvidia cards. never ATI.

Only had the 59hz bug with my GTX260, 60hz with 5870, sounds more like a nvidia problem.

I had this "issue" with an ATi card, though never noticed any negative effects.

Im not sure if I have the problem or not. Ati CCC says 60hz, Monitor shows running at 60hz but Win7 Screen res / Advanced / Monitor says 59hz and wont save at 60 when I change it.

I have a Dell 2209WAf running at 1680x1050 at 76htz using nvidia drivers on W7. There was a thread on here a while back where someone linked to a site that had a custom inf file that can be installed as these monitors can support higher refresh rates.

My 4870 must be an nvidia in disguise cos ive got the 59hz problem
and so has my m8 who has a 5770, i think it a windows 7 64bit problem

well must be then. all i was saying, was i've never had this problem in win7 with ati, only nvidia. so must be win7 and mix of things then.

hopefully microsoft will sort it out
