Terrible battery life on my X10

Just checking with other X10 owners if this is normal since this is my first smart phone, so to speak.

I got it on Thursday and had to charge it twice already. Had it fully charged last night around 9pm, played around on the Android Market for around 30min, turned 3g off and went to sleep. It is now 13 hours later and it's sitting on around 50% battery life which I think it ridiculous. I have not made any calls or even played around on it. Is this normal for these type of phones? I can still swop it for the Desire next week. How is the Desire battery life?

Obviously not the same phone but my Nexus One goes through about 5% battery per hour. Seems to be the same for other Snapdragon phones. You gotta bear in mind that these are small computers and have a boat load of features along with big, bright screens. Whilst a few decent charge/discharge cycles definitely help, don't expect great things. You'll be hard pressed to find a modern smartphone with much better battery life.

I just leave mine on charge every night.

i get a day and a bit out of mine the same as my last few 'smart'phones
. it definitely improved after a few charges/discharges

am running the latest firmware though. maybe you arent ?

look for the thread on xda about this. im sure theres all sorts of battery saving tips. things like stopping it checking facebook/email updates every 2 minutes. you can set push email with googlemail anyway so the pulling email every so often is pretty pointless. androids auto screen brightness thing is supposed to eat battery too

desire will no doubt have similar power usage and similar capacity battery. its the smartphone way

get an app killer if its android, and turn wifi and 3G off too when not in use. that will conserve some battery life. helps a hell of a lot on my tattoo

edit: Taskiller is what im using, it auto kills unignored apps when the screen goes off. really handy!

Yep the Desire does suffer from a very bad battery...if im using mine pretty hard then my battery drains like a mofo but if i dont use it that much then i get a good days use of it etc.

Ok, cheers for the input. I have to say, I charged it up 5 hours ago and absolutely caned the phone today with games and internet reading. It might be my imagination but I'm pretty sure the battery life improved a bit.

This really really bug me, the desire is a fairly thin small phone, would it have been a terrible idea to make it a couple of millimetres thicker and give it a battery which could last the day? Really?

Well it all depends on how much you use it and how hard you use it...its not great by any means but ive noticed after letting it drain a few times till it was dead then recharging, the battery life is getting better slowly....im now getting up to a day and half worth of useage on it and thats even with pretty hard useage.

Mind you its still better than the iphone;)...i mean i havent had to turn off any push notifications and i have WIFI on all the time...so compared to the iphone its better plus its removeable so when the new extended batteries come out, i can easily pop one in unlike the iphone.

Saying that i really do hope the new iphone has a much better battery life....one of the biggest and weakest hardware aspects of the iphone imo.

The battery well improve the more cycles it gets. :)

The R1FA016 does also make a difference as well, if your going to keep the phone id recommend it.
