Mechwarrior 4 Free release - Now Available

It seems the downloading is the easy part, the hard part is getting their stupid, buggy, slow, crappy program to install the game from those .mtx files. You basicly put them in mtx/temp/games folder and then open the client, then you find some wood, touch it and hope that you get lucky and the program installs the game properly without attempting to redownload the entire thing.
 
Once you get those .mtx files downloaded, open the mtx program and go to I think it was "file > open files" and select each one of the mtx files, this will copy them into the games/temp folder in the mtx directory, I tried copying them there manually but it then didnt list MechWarrior4 on the available games list.

Once thats done click on the available games list and select to install MechWarrior4, it should then install from the files, maybe re-downloading one of the patches. It will take an age, at least it did with me. Just let it run, open and close the program when it has completed each operation, make sure to check in the text box to see if it says any updates are available, if it says they are then click the update button in the bottom right. Keep doing this until it says "Available Games" in the bottom right and that means your ready to play.
 
Yup site and tracker both down. If you ask nicely maybe someone who has it can post you a dvd with it on?

Enable DHT in uTorrent and the tracker being down stops becoming an issue...

Right click the torrent once it's been added to uTorrent -> Properties -> Tick the 3 things I've ticked at the bottom -> OK. Wait about 5 - 10mins and watch as you start connecting to a bunch of seeds and peers :)

There should be similar settings for anyone running other torrent clients.

Thanks, though I was able to get in before the tracker went down anyway, so I've got a healthy supply of seeds and peers still going. Or this may just be due to the DHT anyway, that's always been on. Oh well, either way its downloading, 3 hours to play time!
 
Bah, finally got it downloaded after some kind seed appeared and was uploading at 1Mb/s and capping my connection.

But unfortunately, installing is impossible because the mektek website is down, and MTX throws a hissy fit and won't list any games available to install.
 
i had the cd's for this but sold them on, it works fine on W7 but there's no widescreen support so i sold them on because they look awful
 
This free version includes the MekPak 3.1 which has loads of fixes, including widescreen support (But doesn't have 1920x1080). The HUD doesn't scale up though, I don't think.
