After i mentioned 2 winners in another thread a while back i got dogged for them being odds on. As you probably know today is the 2000 Guineas and after i tipped Imperial Commander for the gold cup (not odds on 14 - 1 when i tipped :)) thought id give you my opinion for today. Canford Cliffs with Hughes on its back still at 10 - 1 is a pretty good EW bet.

Anyone else having a look today ?

:) I'll follow your tip as I have absolutely no idea regarding any sort of betting, but recently I have placed bets for others and they've all came up, so hopefully the pattern will not break .

Make shure you have it each way so if you had £1 each way your total stake would be £2

Also only bet what you can afford nothings ever set in stone (kuato star *cough*) :)#

edit: incase you didnt know each way means it only has to place for you to win, you normally get a quater of the odds so after about 4/1 each way bets arent worth having.

Canford is highly regarded by Hannon though it looks like it might be best suited by sprint distances, to be fair though it got beat AGAIN by its stablemate Dick Turpin. In hindsight The Greenham was the clue apart from Makfi which was almost impossible to assess, the French filly in the 1000 Guineas tomorrow looks a better favourite imho, though its got plenty of competition, prob a watching brief for me as these races always give a stack of winners in the coming season, nice to see Sariska again tomorrow too :)

St Nicholas Abbey apparently now quoted as 4/1 for the Derby, not for me though it *should* be suited by longer distance.

Now I'm probably not as into sports betting as some people on here but I was always under the impression that simply trying to pick winners wasn't likely to be +ve rather you're more likely to be able to make money in the long run simply though getting good prices (line shopping).

What do you think cliffs was :p and imperial commander ? :p couple of times a month and always in the big races i normally find a good priced EW bet and 9/10 times i win due to me being patient enough not to go drop my winnings on the next race which i know nothing about :) On the other hand i know someone in real life (not from the Internet) who's house i can sit in and he consistently picks winners or good ew bets out all day and makes about 5-10 points a day. Since he has other business commitments he doesn't bet that big but im pretty confident in saying if he moved to Thailand or somewhere and he had a laptop and 1k starting money he could live for the rest of his life there. Also its funny each week when he takes his online print off to William hill and says "I'm here to collect my wages" Having said that though its taken him along time 40+ years of loosing to get to the stage he is now.

Just sayin :), Special Duty duly obliges @ a generous 9/2, got the race after enquiry after Cecil's very unluckily imho got disqualified.

MY dad's said exactly the same thing. He's been saying to me for months to pile on Special Duty but I ignored him, oops :o

That's the thing - how can he be sure its not just down to luck - if he's doing it irregularly due to business commitments (thus perhaps a relatively small sample size for this recent winning streak) and has been loosing for 40 years... its more likely (if what he's basically doing is attempting to pick winners) mostly down to a lucky streak. Then again I know nothing about how he's coming to his decisions and am just generalising etc...

Wish I understood all of this...

Betting on the nags isn't my forte and I do wonder sometimes how people actually choose the horses.
