Parents Mondeo auto will not go into reverse

Hi Guys,

Dad's just called and mentioned Mum's 51 reg Mondeo 2.0 Auto will not reverse. Works fine in Drive for the forward gears, and the shifter moves into reverse fine, but it doesn't engage the reverse gear.

Any ideas what it could be?

Mate had this issue, was something to do with the lever. will ask him if you have no replies by then. Could be the box though.

Probably the box - Mondeo autoboxes are worse than dire.

They are very poor auto boxes, terrible reliability. Have you done the obvious and checked the oil level?

Knackered autobox almost certainly. The CD4E is a complete dog. They used it in the Mazda 626 as well in the US and got sued because of all the known problems and no recalls.

Good question, tbh I am not sure. However it would be a miracle if it makes it to the MOT as the box is already failing. These units give up very quickly after developing a fault.
