Do you use the official ones for your lens or buy made in china ones from auction?

I need a couple and I'm just seeing what the general feeling is about knock offs :D

If your talkin about protection of the lens i normally just stick on a clear UV filter, or polarised if im out and about on a sunny day :D

Lens hoods are better because they do absolutely nothing to degrade image quality whilst doing everything to improve it. OFC they also act as protection. Unless you're likely to have things flung directly at the front element lens hoods should be the first stop before clear UV filters.

What Adrianr said.
My lens hood came as standard (most do, apart from Canon and their silly antics to not inc hood as standard apart from L lenses). Anyway, to answer OP, I use original hoods as I've tried a couple of knock off China varieties in the past for the Canon 18-55mm IS and 55-250mm IS. Blooming kack as it broke/cracked within a few occasional use.
