Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

Don't get me wrong I love macs, I really do, but 12000+ for an i5. F me. Thinkpad thanks :D

I've got a Thinkpad at work. It's a horrible thing. It somehow manages to both be ridiculously heavy and feel plasticky at the same time. It's reasonably powerful but I'm lucky if I get two hours out of it.

Some people are willing to pay a premium for a premium product. Some people (i.e. my employers :p) aren't.

What model Thinkpad is it?

Nearest model to the Macs are the T410/510 series.

We use the t510 at work and they are awful, they weigh about 2 tons and the build quality is none existent. The Macbook has superb build quaity, better than the HP Envy 15 I had just before it and the XPS and Studio Dell which I tried in the purple shop.

I guess your T510 don't come from the same factory as ours.

Ours are approximately the same size and little thicker than a 15" MBP. Weight is within 0.1Kg of a 15" MBP. OK, so the Lenovo isn't aluminium or unibody construction but they're the best built mainstream business laptop. If it continues to live up to the standards set by the rest of the T series they'll take a daily battering for many years without complaint.

If I didn't use a Mac at home, I'd have a ThinkPad.

You're missing an important part. The quality drops as soon as you boot it up and find that it is running windows :D

Sorry its the t500, not the t510, bloody horrible things...

That would be why it weighs a lot and is made out cheap plastic. Get work to man up and buy the T series!

R-series is mainly ABS plastic where the T-series has a cage chassis made out magnesium alloy for a more rugged, lighter and thinner construction.

I say the elephant in the room is that Windows and OS X are virtually identical for the most common use cases.

Bloody hell the thing is getting hot when pushed. The i5 is hitting 95c and the gfx is near 90. It will burn your lap if you run anything heavy duty
