Avatar - Bluray.

A comparison of your DVD with Blu Ray on those smaller (26" and 32") screens would be great.

I havent seen the DVD version, but my guess is that it must be one of the best DVD transfers ever, given the quality of the BD transfer.

Obviously on the larger screens we should expect BD to pull away from DVD, in terms of image quality, but on smaller screens, the DVD may hold its own.

Got my copy delivered yesterday, Have quickly checked out what the quality is like, looks absolutely amazing! :D

Wish I had surround sound and a bigger screen though!

I suspected that......... I dont really need any more eco-hammering.....
If its a film with a message about global issues, i'll give it a miss.

In a nutshell, the Earthlings, goto another planet to harvest a very expensive mineral and in order to do it, they need to get the natives to move away from the mineral rich areas and co-operate with the Earthlings. They don't want to and thus begins the battle of Earthlings vs Navi.

I would say the "message" is akin to what the Americans/West are doing in the Middle East - killing people for oil and economic gain.

I wouldnt say that the eco message is particularly strong, though it is there.

Storywise, its pretty poor, however, if special effects interest you, then it is definitely worth a watch. My gut feeling is that youngsters will absolutely love this film. I know that if I saw this film when I was my teens, this might've been my favourite film of all time, but now in my 30's, storyline takes precedence over pretty colours.

Its not worth buying it on DVD or BLU-RAY until after the summer cinema release and even then you only get 8 minutes extra.

It is being re-released with a touch more extra footage. And there will be a special edition DVD/Blu-Ray after that.

With regards to the current release, can probably safely say its the best looking Blu-Ray i've seen and the audio is top notch. I like the film, its not original as such, its mainly old ideas with a fresh coat of blue paint but its still top notch entertainment.

Watched for the first time last night.

Great film and the picture was simply superb! I dont recall seeing such vibrant colours and sharp images!

Thanks god for plasma TV's!!

May have to buy it when the next release is out!

even though ive just got this on bluray , i will get the re-release when it comes out as that will have the extra 6 minutes added to the end of the film plus hopefully a load of extra features

yeah i watched it last night on my plasma and its only 720p but it looked fantastic

Got this out last night for my boy who had a mate stay over but more specifically to see what all the fuss regarding picture quality was about.
Having already seen the film twice in 3D I wasn't that particularly interested in watching the whole thing again but got to say that I couldn't take my eyes off it, the level of detail was breathtaking.
Should anybody happen to have a friend/family member that is in the 'I don't see what the big deal is with all this HD malarky' camp, show them this and sit with a very confidant smug grin on your face. :D

Just bought this on Blu Ray.

When i go to play it using ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 Platinum, it cracks up and jogs as if it can't handle it.

I patched the program and now when i restart (it says you have to), it won't start windows. Instead of getting the login screen you just get a black screen with the cursor.

I have to restore back to be able to get into windows.

I can get into Safe Mode however.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

OK, i managed to get it to work.
I patched it up with the specific patch for Avatar.

However, every 2mins or so, the video cracks up a bit as if it can't decode it, but the sound stays fine. If i jump back to the same bit, it doesn't crack up.
This makes me think that it isn't the actual disk, but maybe just the fact that the patch is only a BETA patch because it seems that it is just a decoding issue.

Am i right? Or should i go and exchange the copy for a new one?
