So my xbox 360 elite died a couple of months ago and I just didn't care. But after sorting through all my games I decided I would quite like an xbox again.
So what version should I be looking at, chipset etc.
If any one is interested the error I got was related to the RAM dying on the elite.
 
I think it's like 4 years old and bought from Cyprus, would that matter too much? Would it even be covered under their extended warranty for a different error other than the 3 red rings?
 
Is there a specific error shown on screen?

Go to Xbox.com, sign in with your gamertag, go to support, then register a console.

Slap in the serial number and they should be able to tell you what the warranty dates are etc.

If it is an Elite, they have not been out for 3 years, they only came out August 2007 so you may be in for a free repair.

Certainly interesting, I'll have to get in contact with I guess. Still going to pick up another one while I wait and if they can fix this one give it to my brother. So my original question still stands.
 
Any new 360 you buy now will be a Jasper board which is the latest and most reliable hardware. They started appearing late 2008 so if you buy a brand new one I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a Jasper.
 
how to find out if my 360 is a jasper? i bought the elite around decemember just gone from Gamestation, is there a way of finding out the chipset?

Check the manufacture date on the back. If it's post the Jasper release date was then it'll be a Jasper. Jasper was sometime mid-2008 if memory serves.
