About to buy two large sofas for the house. The sofas each is 91cm high, 99cm deep and 220cm wide. The door it needs to go through is 81cm wide, obviously leaving me with 18cm short as the depth is what matters. Now, can 18cm be made up by tilting the sofa slightly forward to negotiate the depth issue and making it smaller. May be a weird question but is there a formula to work out how much I gain by tilting the sofa?

if i was at work i could draw this up on alphacam and give an answer ,my other idea would be to do a fullsize cardboard crossection cut out and give that a try!

I don't think you can establish this without knowing the shape of the sofa. You could calculate it quite easily based on the peak height of the back, but the front of the arms might get in the way first.

Ok well I've done some deep maths business on the numbers you gave :p, and the worst possible case figure i get is 86cm width. So with a bit of rotation and cushion squishing you should be fine :D

I threw 5 lolly sticks into the air and observed their pattern when they settled on the ground.

The chairs will fit.
