Gladstone would have to be in there for me on an ideological idea.

The problem is rating PM's depends very much on the context at the time. Thatcher was just what was needed in the context of the late 70s and early 80s, but that doesn't mean she was a great PM.

I think if we are talking context at the time, the out and out winner has to be Churchill, for anybody surely!

I'm thinking more the opposite, it's hard to determine who was a great PM and who performed well due to the circumstances they were in. Thatcher, for example, had many personality defects, was difficult to work with and so on, but those qualities worked for her when she was in power rather than against her.

I disagree, Churchill made plenty of "bad" decisions with regards to the war and certain missions and so on.

Compared to the good decisions he made I think they over rule any bad ones. He had good leadership qualities and he constantly spoke words of wisdom that we still use today and many have quoted him in these election threads.

Can I ask, who would be in your top 3 prime ministers this country has had?

Charles Grey PM: 1830-34 for the Reform Act 1832, which reformed the Commons, enfranchised 65% of the population and began the abolishment of rotten boroughs. He also oversaw the abolishment of Slavery throughout the British Empire. not forgetting the tea of course.

Charles Grey is often overlooked, but he is among our greatest Prime Ministers in my opinion.

Yep, seen it, it's disgusting.

EDIT: As much as you may hate it, the Labour party election broadcasts have been so much better than the Tory ones this time.

I disagree, the Labour ones have been at least as dishonest and disgusting as the Tory ones...

What is disgusting about it? Is there anything false in it?
Since when does something have to be false in order for one to feel revolution towards it? I'm disgusted by many things but I don't claim them to be false. Their portrayal of the Prime Minister was disgusting. It's quite something coming from the party refusing to engage in negative campaigning.

There was one broadcast that I found to be disgusting, regarding the tax credits, and I posted to that effect. Leaving that aside though, I think many of the Labour ones have been almost masterful. I should reiterate, I'm not talking about the falsities of the respective broadcasts, just the general idiom of their messages and their production values.

For example:

These are easily better than the Tory equivalents. I should also point out that I'm not talking about their factual inaccuracies as obviously, as you know, the electorate have no interest in such things.

Eddie Izzard has gone down in my estimtions. I'd rather a party get money from a rich nondom than unions that take it from their funds. or to simplifying, their millions of members.

I thought the BNP one was by far the best - similar to an episode of till death us do part.

if only they didn't mean it.

Cameron was banging on earlier that labour have resorted to 'dissing the tories' or something along those lines, instead of putting across their policies and hope for the future. I think this latest advert goes against what cameron was saying.

So does anyone else have a rather not bad looking lass running in their area?

"Daisy Benson" is our lib dem effort, and I must say she isnt that bad... well on the eyes anyway.

Do you realise how barmy that sounds? You'd rather a party was representative of the few, not the many?
