It’s my old man’s birthday on Saturday and he’s been wanting to play MP3s in his Volvo V70 for a while, I don't drive or own a car but I'm very technical minded and generally like fiddling and installing any kind of tech, so I'm thinking about getting him this 865DBi

Just wondering if I will be able to fit this myself but I'm just wondering as to what extra cables I might need?

Will have to do some more digging around on the internet but thought I would ask for some general advice on here first.

Cheers petrol heads!

I was a little tempted to take a gamble on this. If he's not an audiophile, it's a very cool gadget for not much money at all.

The hardest part of fitting will be getting the old stereo out. Other than that, if you have an ISO adapter, it's no different to (for instance) installing a new hard drive.

That is nice for the price providing it works! :P and has some longevity in it!

Might be a little overkill for him though, he gets ****ed off with his touchscreen phone!

Heres the cockpit, it doesn't look like a Double DIN unit will fit as the right hand side isn't level?

Are these cheapy double din touchscreens anygood? I fancy one for my car, as imo non touchscreen double din units like like microwaves. But I can't expect such a cheap one actually be any good? I have nightmares of crashing software, low res interfaces and rubbish touch sensitivity.

Anyone got one?

My research suggests that functionality-wise it's very good (if a little 'clunky') but the sound quality isn't quite up there. It's probably still better quality than a standard system in most cars.

I must admit I played it safe in the end and paid an extra £100 for an Alpine with 1/3rd of the functionality.
