Stood his ground? By being a human punchbag?
Nobody was expecting him to take out 30 people with his bare hands but he could either have stood up for himself (verbally or physically - some people may have taken a beating to stand up for their principles) or at the very least he could contact the police to make sure the savage is brought to justice.
He is the epitome of a coward considering that he let himself be walked over that night and now for the rest of his life seeing as he won't get the police involved. He is ensuring other people get treated like this in the future.
I did think about punching back but then had a rethink and realised I could have ended up getting a severe beating or worse, or they could be out another night and do something. I did keep asking him why he hit me and
thing i saind something like "dont you think thats a bit racist"
When i was 13 I had a motorbike. Two similar aged lads who are known to have close connections with travellers kept asking to have a go on my bike when they saw me out, they followed me home one day. I came back one day and there was then and another lad looking in my garage. A day or so later we had been broken into and it had gone along with a lawnmower and 2 push bikes. Someone had cut himself on the back window getting in. My dad reported it and police came and said they are well known by police, dad in and out of jail etc. They adivised us not to take it any further as it could cause a lot more problems. I went to school with them (though they were never there, saw them maybe twice in school)
Nothing else ever happened. I could have reported it, made a statement and got them a telling off, maybe ever a few hours community service. However I could have also been stabbed at school, burgled again or whatever else.
So - I didnt report it because (like the take-away owner) I value my fingers and my health. I do go to some dodgy places, like nights out in chapel town alone and running in not so great areas. I am street wise and havent had much trouble before. I dont want them to see me again and think "thats the one who reported me, lets do him in"
Oh - A few years ago in Leeds 3 of mates came out a club and were argueing with some asian (chinese/japanese i think) guys. The asians started fighting with them and the 3 all fought back. It turned out the asians were part of a known gang, one had some sort of special blade and sliced my mates face hospitalizing him. These guys in the takeway last night could have been similar
