Lending your car

as a general rule the only person I would let drive any of my cars is my oldest brother, unless I was drunk in which case anyone can have a go :P
 
I usually have a second car that's a bit of a shed and I'd let any of my mates drive it if they needed it. The Cefiro (and my old Legacy B4) I'm a bit less happy about lending it out. I've let my GF drive both but then she drives a heavily modified S13 that's putting out more power through the rear wheels than the Cef currently puts through all 4 wheels.

I got a bit cagey about it many years ago during the fuel protests when one afternoon my mum gets me out of bed and asks to borrow my crappy old D reg Escort (since it was able to run on 4 star and thus had a plentiful supply of fuel after all the other cars in the household had run dry). I go back to bed and 10 minutes later she wakes me up again screaming and yelling that I have to move my car now. I get dressed and go out to find that she's gotten about 20 meters down the road, at which point there's a 90 degree left corner and she has managed to turn about 30-45 degrees across before hitting the opposite curb, then gave up and abandoned it there blocking the entire road.

Apparently she's no longer capable of driving a car without power steering.
 
My sister is the only other person to have driven my car (other than the garage) and that was only for about 100m in a car park.

I'm happy to let any of my friends/family have a go as long as they're insured and they don't boot it.
 
I let my mum drive one of my cars last week. She hasnt driven a manual for years and I could still hear it half way down the street, revving like hell in 1st gear!
 
My Dads a named driver on my policy, not had the car long and hes already lent it off me for two days! His car decided his exhaust didn't like being connected anymore so needed a runner for work.
 
Sometimes dad drives my car (usually just when he's taking my Nephew somewhere and I still have the child seat fitted), sometimes I use his car, had it for a week once.
 
I don't give two hoots who drives our Corona but only my wife and I drive the Legacy. I'm susrprisingly attached to it and don't want it wrapped around a tree.

Given your location, I'm guessing that's a B4 or a GTB?

Can't blame you for being attached to it, or for worrying about some muppet wrapping it around a tree.
 
The girl friend seems to think she will be driving it when she passes her test, Not a chance.

Good job she has been given a little old Micra.
 
I'm fine lending my car to my dad but since I was woken by my mum to say she'd written my Fiesta off she's been banished! Been cursed with some dodgy cars since, which I can only think is fate's way of punishing me.
 
just rememberd i have let a few friends drive my car on drift days i was also driving their cars too though.

The arrangement with my pops is just that he can run the car whilst i am away for a year or two, i have left it at my parents for a past few years when in london as i rarely drive it, i dont have too much of an issue with his driving more his theories on car maintenance in which he thinks the 10l drum of 10-40 he has in the garage he has for his landy will be ok for the mazda when i run it on 'decent' stuff, luckily i have stopped him from this practice thus far! (other than the budget tyres which i will have to change)
 
I'm away on holiday for 2 weeks and will let my mate have the keys to use it when he likes..he's on the insurance anyway (when we go out climbing or cycling you can never tell if you are going to come back with an injury so its always better to have a backup option!)and the car gets used, he can go climbing or cycling without having to check with his missus, and I get a pick up at the airport at the end of it!
 
My Fiancée uses my car occasionally, but I generally don't like being a passenger when she's driving. That said, I'm a terrible passenger anyway.

I'd quite happy lend my car to a couple of select friends or my Dad though, but those select friends would be happy to let me drive their cars too.

You can put any tyre you like on it when you get back. If your dad binned your car, would he replace it?

I'd let my mum, dad or girlfriend drive my car. Not my sister though - she'd break it somehow and couldn't afford to fix it.
 
I let only my dad drive it.

I wouldn't let any of my friends drive it as because they all drive heaps or tinny, rubbish french hatchbacks with 70bhp. I do have one friend with an Audi TT-S but he had an accident and damn near wrote it off (was only 3 months old) so he's been struck off my "Friends that i trust with my car" list. :p
 
i'll lend any of my mate's or family drive eather of my cars, on the understanding if they break it the pay for it to be fixed, and wen i drive other people's cars if i break it i fix it
 
My car, my GF's car, and my mum's car, are insured so as to allow any of us to drive any car.

The driveway is big enough for all 3 (plus more) but not to easily take our "own" cars, so sometimes we'll just jump into whichever car is easiest to get out.


Additionally, if I'm up at my dad's, he'll drive any of the cars if he needs to.
 
My dad is a very good driver and has had quite a few sports cars, and has fire brigade training on how to drive a car through traffic. I wouldnt let him drive my Skyline though!
