My contract with T-mobile ends on August 10th 2010. It was an 18 month contract on a T-mobile G1. Seeing all these shiny new smartphones makes me wonder if I can ask for an upgrade now if I choose to extend my contract with T-mobile.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

To see when you can upgrade text UP to 150. They'll text you your renewal date back - its a free service.

I wanted to get a new HD2 so I phoned up T-mobile & tried to buy one. They told me the only way was to cancel my existing contract & take out a new one

Idiots

18 month contract normally means you can upgrade after 15 months.

vodafone let you upgrade 3 months early

might work out cheaper to cancel the contract and start a new one if you dont get that option though

when cancelling you usually dont pay tax on the monthly rate and you sometimes get an early payment bonus too

It depends entirely on your credit rating and how much you spend a month and which way the wind is blowing.

They may offer you an early upgrade, they may not but the earliest that they will is 3 months. Usually though, it's better to wait until your final 30 days anyway as you're given more discounts closer to the end of your contract.

Also, if you're looking at the htc desire, you'll be better off waiting anyway as the prices have just shot up on the cheaper contracts to protect stock levels so hopefully by then, the stock situation will be much better and the prices will be lower again.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to ring them and find out if they will offer me an upgrade. I'm looking at either the desire, legend or nexus one. I was toying with the idea of getting an iphone but they seem way behind the times in terms of the OS (OS4 is only just introducing multitasking later this summer when I've been multitasking on my G1 for over a year now)

My upgrade is... this week or next. So I will see what they offer me. After a Desire so if they can't get me one I will be leaving. Will wait and see.

The longer you wait till the contract ends the more discount you'll get towards a nice shiney phone :) Sure you can leave, just have to wait for 17/18 months to hand in your 30days notice.

EDIT : Also, if you wait longer you'll get a nice shiney phone and line rental discount.

T-mobile let you see your upgrade options online I think. Just been locked out for entering a wrong password (1 time...).

LOL I've been locked out of that site 3 times now. You have to ring up and they reset it for you.

I think their site is messed up because everytime I go to enter it I get blocked and have to reset it. Then come next week it will happen again. It's a stupid system because there is nothing on the site you can do. You cant cancel your contract etc so why make it so secure.

So 15 months has passed on my 18 month contract.

I got a G1 with the Flext30 package. That gives me £140 of credit a month plus 3gb Internet for £30 a month.

I'm now wanting a Desire (to sell for a Nexus One). I use net like crazy so really I need to stick with T-mobile.

The upgrade page tells me I can get 20% off my price plan which is - £6. So would be £24 a month. OR I can upgrade my phone. Choose a crappy free one or if I want the Desire... give them £210. HOW IS THAT AN UPGRADE! I know I would be getting the phone for cheaper... but still.

Anyway like I said I want a Nexus One, so I think I will give it till my contract runs out and in the 3 months I'm hoping a 18 month deal will come along.
