...is the work of the devil!

I made the mistake of having a play with one at the weekend. I've now got that "itchy" feeling that makes me want to go full frame! Now I do like to shoot sports altough next season it will probably only be grass roots level, and the key thing for me is getting pictures of my daughter and that pushes the limits of the 1D at times! I've read in reviews that the servo tracking isn't great on the 5D so it most likely wouldn't suit me. All that has done though is make me look at the D700!!!

Anyone got something to make the "itch" go away! :D

Auto-focus performance on the 5D II really is poor by today's standard, I still can't believe they didn't upgrade it. Certainly the worst aspect of the 5D II.

The D700 is a hell of a camera, and you currently get the MB-D10 grip free with purchase (which can give you a healthy framerate boost too)!

I want the 1Ds4....when its out.

The 5D is good for what it is designed for (studio, portraits, weddings). It is not as versetile as the competition but it does produce lovely files. I love the feel of the photos it produces.

I did have a 7D, traded that for the 1D mkIII I have now. I really shouldn't be sat here reading D700 reviews...

Apparently, the 7D is pretty hard to fault as an APS-C camera.

Whilst you won't get the full-frame output of the D700, you will get a cheaper body, awesome HD movie output and fast FPS as standard.

I don't have much invested in any system at the moment, as I borrow lenses for my 20D (that says enough ,really), so I would be curious to hear about significant differences between the 7D and 1D Mark 3...

Which is exactly why I wont buy one. The same money could go on a mark III 2nd hand.

I hate to drag out the two different cameras routine, but I would be very surprised if you find anyone using a 5DMK2 where a MKIII would be a better choice. Whilst it's resolution is pretty much it's only trick (from a stills perspective) it's that resolution that makes it a fantastic camera for things that don't move (Or things that don't move fast at least).

Disclaimer: I'm not at all advocating Canon's choice of AF system with the 5D2, and find it downright pathetic that they couldn't have even given it the same AF system from the 50D, let alone the 7D.

Its true im in the same boat, im on a 5D mk1 right now, a fantastic camera that produces great images, but there is litterally no point in going for the mk2, the only thing that I find lacking on mine is the AF and thats the same on the new version ! 'LOLZ !!' springs to mind, im also going to the dark side when I can afford, the D700 is litterally perfect, I can think of any faults with it for what I want.

I'm selling my d700 if you're interested?!

To cure the itch: Remind yourself that for the cost of the MKII you could buy yourself a 300mm f/2.8 used. Then buy the 300. Blast away at sports.

If symptoms persist: Buy a 5D MkI AND a 300mm f/2.8.*

*Then look uber cool with a 5D+70-200 and 1D+300.

Well, I am in the market for a backup....thinking about either.

1DsMKIII (secondhand, which then would technically relegate the 5Dii to backup)
5DII
7D

The reality is that i can't afford the 1DsIII, its more than twice as much as i want to spend. the 5DII, albeit brilliant, I do like to have the AF of the 7D on it. The 7D is perfect, except its crop....so if i am using 2 bodies, it gets a bit awkward there will be either a lot of overlapping in focal length or missing a huge chunk in between.

Haven't you gone from 500D - 7D - 1D MKIII in a year?

Now you want a 5D MKII?

Is it really that hard to stick with one for a while, I can't see the point in changing so quickly between them if you ask me.

Just my two cents.

EDIT: Infact, you've from from 500D - 7D - 1D MKIII in 5 months. And now want a 5D MKIII after 6 months?

Evolving style - finding the camera that best suits at a given point in time.

For me, it's not my 20D or my bro's 5d Mk2... but I'm bound by my bank balance, else a D700 or 1D Mk3 (or 7D) would be in the offing...

mrthingyx - Is switching that many cameras so quickly needed?

Rojin hasn't had the 1D for a month. Nor was the 500D owned for more than a month for what I can remember.

I'm not trying to start an arguement - but I think perhaps you should give something more time and give the actual shot/composition more thought, rather than switching camera all the time.

The gear isn't the focus, the photographer is.

Well, i've seen worse...

There is a member on TP that went THROUGH Canon's range.

It was like 30D, 40D, 5D, 5Dii, 7D, 1DMKIII, 1DsMKIII.

He keep selling and trading up, and he did the same with lenses, the guy clearly has the money but has no idea what to shoot, and it almost seem like he buys gear for the sake of gear. I could see a patten in his upgrading and when he sold his 5DMKII for a 7D, just because it was new at the time I mentioned to him that he should just get the best camera on the market and be done with it, it'll save him money in the long run, as he loses 5%-10% on everything he trade/sell. The best example was he bought a 24mm T/S lens second hand, in the same week he put it up for sale again, and then before he even sold it he bought a new 24mmT/S MKii. Funnily enough he ignored my post, and what do you know, guess what camera he has now?

It starts with the number 1, its FF, ends with a III.
