GTX 480 Are we ever going to get it

The 58xx series does offer better value for money over the 4xx series, but if people wish to buy them its they're business and should not be persecuted for doing so with the exception of some friendly banter of course.

Good luck for all those waiting

Yes good luck to those people who buy them, its good to have the choice.
I have the 5970 and am happy with it but i still think the 400 series are brill cards.

im not saying anything against the people. Its their choice, oviously, but ry state how poor for value these are vs the 5870. I just dont understand why people buy the cards

Probably so that they can use max levels of AA ie 32xCSAA and generally all round higher levels of AA, scales well when using AA, use TRSAA, run Physx, run Cuda, use 3D, have no vsync issues, have more on board memory, scale well when overclocked, good minimum frame rates.

Is that a good enough answer to your question?

3d i can understand, fair enough. But £450 plus for physics..... Is it really worth that much? Not had v sync issues but then i think even the 5 series isn't a worth upgrade over my CF 4870s. Could you please explain the whole scales when running AA and overclocked? One can buy the 5870 significanty cheaper WITH 2GB ram aswel....

why exactly would the minimum framerates be bad on the 5870? Cuda, yes point number 2 i can understand, but surely people who want that want work station cards? And i know i sound like an ATI fanboy but im not, so im not sure what's the max AA ATI cards can do, but personally games, bar rts, look no difference past 8xaa when the world is moving. Would one really play a game and sit there watching the visuals instead of playing?

I have just come from a 4870X2 and the experiance is allot smoother. For me its a nice upgrade, I am very happy.

AA scales very well with the 480 and I can play Battlefield BC2 maxed out at 32xAA @ 1080p with an average of 63fps. The 480 loves AA and the higher you ramp it up the bigger the gap becomes with the 5 and 4 series. Fermi loves AA and handles it very well. It hardly effects the frame rates. Nvidia also has TRSAA which works well with DX10 games and adds another feather in the cap on image quality. This can not be found on any other card apart from the 470/480. I can force ambient occlusion in the drivers which cant be done with ATI.

AA to some users is a deal clincher. It was for me, I play on a 70" 1080p display and I can notice the difference when I ramp up the AA. The max AA you can get on ATI is 24xAA.

Overclocking on these cards is also good, a 20% overclock will give you about the same back in terms of frames which is pretty much unheard of. If I overclocked my 4870X2 by 10% I would be lucky to see half that back in terms of extra frames.

ATI cards suffer with vsync issues on some games which are not apparent on nvidia cards. I got it in GOW, Battlefield, Wolfenstien, Dirt 2 menus to name a few. I also got flickering textures in some games which are not present on my 480, Battlefield was terrible for that.

ATIs 2gb cards are about the same price as a 480 gtx (£430-450). I have 2 friends that picked up their 480's for £411.

As for minimum frame rates look up some reviews. The 480 does very well in this area.

If you dont want to spend the extra cash to get a 480 then thats fair enough. Go for a 5870, its a great card. However there are allot of users that value the above points and are happy to buy a 480.

There is always a reason to buy different hardware whether its AMD Phenom or Intel core i5/i7, Samsung or Seagate, ATI 5 series or Nvidia 400 series. Not everyone looks for the same things. Basically there is no right or wrong answer only a user preference be it budget, compatibility with the rest of setup or expectations. :)

Nice one ... This is the most unbiased, realistic, and honest feedback I've seen on this forum for this card. Very nice reply  You have my respect and I'll be purchasing a 480 tonight!

I went for 2 x Zotac GTX 480's But have noticed they don't come with an SLI bridge connector, can I use one that came with an older card??

i am looking for a gtx 470. is there any end user review/ benchmark, other than the street fighter 4 one?

i would like to know how it performs for bfbc2 and some rts games like world in conflict and battleforge
