When is a PC not a PC...

It's not rocket science:

Personal computer = desktop = laptop = tablet = handheld = PC

A MAC is a PC

/thread :p

I've always subscribed to the theory that PC = IBM compatible, so not a Mac. I've never had a Mac, so never had any trouble with this.

While I don't deny that a Mac is a PC (in the sense that it's a Personal Computer), I will always refer to a Mac as a Mac, based soley on its branding, even if it has Windows or whatever installed on it. Anything that isn't using Apple peripherals with OSX I refer to as a PC.

PC = Personal Computer

In my eyes, this is a generic term used for an individuals computer system.

If I were using a Mac then I would state it was a Mac for understanding and simplification of the system.

If I were using a PC with a Windows o/s I'd probably call it "my windows machine".

If I were using a PC with Ubuntu o/s I'd call it "my Ubuntu machine".

Generic term PC is blanket to any persons computer. It's just Mac users like to show how unique/cool/individual/trend setting/fashionable they are by stating they have one.

(I almost made it through the entire post as well...I knew I wouldn't be able to resist :D)

The only thing you "can't" do is install OSX on a non Apple branded piece of hardware, even though it is darely easy.

Can't, or "Apple says it's illegal because they think they set the law"? :p

My off the shelf PC hardware sitting next to me says it's the latter. :D

I personally have no problem with apple stuff but when I hear a mac user say his mac is superior to a regular pc for gaming I tend to chuckle and think how ignorance must be bliss. :p

Exactly. :D

And I have no idea what the word darely was meant to be...:o:confused::p

I've had people tell me their Xbox graphics are better than my PC. It is hard to resist the urge to punch them but I usually just explain nicely that they are wrong, they wouldn't get away with these lies no matter how geeky I seem.

Haha, that's exactly the problem I have in the mac type of threads over there, I can't stand fools talking nonsence, which means I have to correct them, they take offence and end up turning a thread that is quite civil into something resembling a warzone...

Them reciting scripts from the book of Job and myself and a few others pointing out the facts...
