Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

Bloody hell the thing is getting hot when pushed. The i5 is hitting 95c and the gfx is near 90. It will burn your lap if you run anything heavy duty

Thats worrying because I ONLY ever use a laptop by resting it on my legs.... (My TV is on my desk so I sit on my bed and rest the laptop on my legs to browse)

EDIT: Actually realised I was looking at warranty info only and not Applecare:

Anyone mind checking their Applecare status if they took the HE discount (and via which channel) - just seeing if that extra £60 my sister spent was wasted and what I need to include in my order...

Seems the delivery time is still pretty bad - might be worth waiting til that reduces as its getting near to 'Free iPod' offer too I hear

Not sure what you mean but all HE macbooks come with 3 years parts and labour standard. Anything extra paid is for the 3 years technical support over the phone. Confirmed this when purchasing mine over the phone today.

The problem is one person gets told one thing, while another gets told another it seems (supposedly there was a whole policy shift last year that disagrees with what youve been advised) - I just cant rely on what an Apple salesperson says anymore.

At least the website above gives a date and something you can rely on - just want to see if other on HE can confirm what it advises when they put their details in - might save some people £60 ;)...

Cheers a0004uk - thats about right Andr3w - last year it started at the end of May so very soon - the offer T&Cs and discounts do change though...

Mine on that website says 3years Applecare but it was bought with the £60 option - I do think its not needed but be nice to see proper confirmation.

Rather spend that £60 on something more useful than a set of phonecalls :p

I'd pay the £60 for peace of mind TBH :).

On AppleCare for my MacBook Pro I've had a new Keyboard/Mouse, a new Keyboard/Mouse/Topcase, a new Battery, a new Power Adapter, and it's off now having a new Logic Board (which as it has the GPU and CPU soldered onto it would be £750).

I made sure that this was the case before declining the extended applecare, He explicitly said that it comes with 3 years parts and labour but no extended telephone support past the initial 90 days. He said if for any reason it didn't update on the system to use the update agreement button on the warranty page and it will be rectified.

My last macbook had 3 years P&L but that was 2 years ago now.

My i7 model doesn't seem to be getting as hot as many people are saying theirs are. Maybe i'm not pushing it as much, because i didn't buy it for gaming, video encoding or anything similar, but the only time i've had it at scorching heats was when, understandably i was trying out crysis on it :p

That's the core of the i5/gfx chip. How hot is the actual case?

If you touched the back left hand edge as you look at it, around the speaker area it is very very very very hot. It'd burn you if you kept it on your lap or touched it for too long. The bottom is very very hot as well.

Well my macbook pro has shipped, anyone know how long delivery takes roughly from china to here? (excluding delays from ash clouds etc..)

my mac arrived on wed but i've been away until to day and been playing with it for last few hours. Damn! this thing is too awesome to describe in words. absolutely phenomenal.

Ok for those who have 'merge in transit' orders and want to know when their delivery will reach the sorting centre in Hinckley (since you get no tracking info until it reaches there and is assigned a carrier), follow the steps below.

http://www.kuehne-nagel.com/cgi-bin/ws_ttglo.sh/tt730-100mail.w

1. Fill in the form with the required details. (For position put Apple customer and Company Apple, City is your delivery city)
2. Enter your 'Our Delivery Ref' Number from your apple order status page (Mine started with 811) into the 'Existing User ID' field
3. Make sure you tick the 'Trace my apple order' tickbox
4. Tick the contact person in Europe/Near middle east
5. Submit

Should receive an email back within a couple of hours telling you when it will arrive in Hinckley. Tad annoying that Apple don't provide tracking from Shanghai to UK. Just used this myself and my MBP should reach there tomorrow evening :)

I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Pro but I'm worried about the heat the new ones kick out. I'll be using it for heavy video editing etc so the CPU will be thrashed a lot.

I was using Win 7 tonight to do some stuff in Powerpoint and it got very hot again. I'm thinking of taking it back as its ridiculous how hot this thing gets...
