EBC RedStuff pads - Opinions please!

I will never go near red stuff pads again after having them on my Skyline for two years. They killed three sets of disks including a very expensive set of DBAs and whilst braking performance was good, I couldnt justify that against the cost of disks.

Forgot to say... the bed in time for Redstuff pads is ~1500 miles of 'urban driving'. During this time, the rears on mine used to squeal stupidly loud in the cold/ damp.

Yellows apparently bed in much quicker, so I'd probably opt for those in your position.

My car came with red stuffs when I bought it, so when I needed a new set for the rears, I replaced the discs with EBC and put red stuff pads on, had no squeal with them. I'm happy with them. But I don't track my car, and don't drive like a nutter so rarely use my brakes..

From what I've read, yellow stuffs are more suited to track

I had some on the front of my S13. As mentioned, they did need a good prod when cold to wake them up. Post that, I thought they were brilliant. Never suffered brake fade during some fairly "rapid" road use. Note that I had previously managed to complete overheat the standard pads.

Got redstuff on the S3 at the moment. There's certainly very little chance of heat fade. I've warped the discs long before the pads were getting close to fade. The problem with cold bite is a reality though. Some say it's not a problem but I assure you that I find that when cold their bite is naff. Emergency stops on cold redstuff is pretty hairy.

I'm going with the DS2500 at replacement time (soon)

I didn't think much of the redstuff pads on my clio, didn't last very long, rubbish when cold and didn't think they were much better than the oem ferodo pads once warmed...although to be fair saying that they were good, just that they were on par with the normal pads and expected something a bit more.

Also going the DS2500 route shortly!

I have never personally used them but a friend of mine has them on his car and they dont work well at all when there cold, once there warm there great!

yet they are better on the road than reds and dont cain disks as their bed in procedure is more appropriate to getting an adherent layer on the disk with normal road use unlike Reds and their cold 'abrasive' method.

Couldn't agree more, i've had some hairy moments using redstuffs from cold, yellows for me next time!

Am using Reds on the RX8, cold bite is as other have said, not great. Once warm they are pretty good though, took me around the 'ring and then through the Stelvio pass and various other fast roads in europe without an issue, they are eating through my disks though so will probably need to change them soon. I find them VERY low on dust, harly any infact compared to OEM pads.

Found them to be very good on the 330d, got better the more you pushed them. Never used them on the track so doubt I was getting anywhere near there limits.

Redstuff pads are good, but would only recommend for fast road use as I have never experienced them on track. I will say that they take 5-6 applications from cold to work and never got any squeal or too much dust from them.

Would recommend, but as I said...can't tell you how they performed at the top edge of performance as I never got the chance to test them.

I am looking to buy redstuff again for the Z4M :)
I've had them on the 3.0i since about Oct/Nov - no probs so far (though I've not had the life of the discs checked since then either - there was loads left, though)

Whatever cheapo nasty pads I had on prior to getting the Yellowstuffs/1.8 disks felt like they were made of cheese in comparison

Ah i see, to be honest they never felt dangerous, but the well bedded OE jobbies felt shaper.

Although the Yellows never seemed to fade.

The Yellows feel very smooth and 'normal' under "standard" breaking but squeeze the pedal a bit harder and they properly haul you to a stop :)

I have yellows now, much better then reds.

-Better for the disks, reds tend to score and abrasively wear the disks
-Better from cold
