ive got my old warhorse pc that was a gaming rig back in the day now stuck on girlfriend duties with restaurant empire :D but was thinking maybe i can make use of it as a 2nd blu-ray capable system

its an old athlon 3700+,skt 754 pci-e, 2 gig ram - its currently has wasting away in it an asus512mb 8800gt .........but it seem it cant do the decoding duties for blu-ray , and going from from experience of trying hd-dvd on this system it was a chug-fest :(

if i add a cheapo card that does decode + purchase a br drive will that work ok then to play discs ? ay help advice would be welcome

I thought an 8800GT's could do the decode, 512MB ones at least. USing latest drivers and tested it properly?

Otherwise just get a cheap nVidia card 9xxx or GT2x0 and you're sorted.

tbh not had a test in well over a year ... will have to donwload a 1080 clip and try playing it on the pc . it doesnt have internet so have to do it the hard way :( are 1080 clips proper 1080p or lower ?

8800gt's can decode H.264 and VC-1 (codecs used on bluray) :)

same codecs (usualy) but much lower bitrates.

Just get an ATI 3450, it can do H.264, costs about £30 and uses about 10Ws, none of this Nvidia nonsense ;)

yeah i was thinking about swapping the card in there tbh ... the 8800gt in it probably eats electric .. and seeing as its hardly being taxed gaming wise i cant see the point of having it in there .. might stick it on mm and give it a good home for someone :D
