I'm gonna be getting a PS3 soon and it'll be the first time i've ever owned a console. I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on buying games 2nd hand either on ebay or high street shops?

Do any of the high street shops let you inspect the disc before you buy it? And generally speaking, how durable are blue-ray discs?

Thanks.

I buy most games 2nd hand except the big titles i want on launch day. Never had a problem, i always ask to see the disc though before purchase.

hardly ever buy brand new just because of the massive price drops you see within a week of release.

Only games I get brand new are normally MP ones which require leveling up etc

Forums are normally a lot cheaper than buying 2nd hand high street, use the Members Market, AVForums and I'm sure some other people can suggest a few more :) Never had problems using forums!

Why bother paying full price for a game when you can get it for £5-10 second hand? Its a no brainer.

I only buy games I really want on release day, everything else I buy second hand.

Yes.

I buy on eBay then once complete sell them back on that too. You won't loose much (not as much as renting anyway) and sometimes you actually make a profit. I basically use it to 'rent' games for long periods of time so I have all the time in the world to complete them.

Also works good for me because i'm a Trophy whore :D

i buy 2nd hand games when i can find them...i ALWAYS ask to see the disc before i buy it and if i dont like it i will ask if they have any more copies or just tell them i dont want it.

I've only bought one game 2nd hand and that was fifa09 because it was £3 :) in gameplay.
The girl at the till showed me the disc before asking for any money and said the others they had were a bit scratched, definitely worth asking to see disc before buying.

Not bought any other games 2nd hand as normally you can find them online cheaper or for £3-5 more but brand new.

ive bought loads for the 360 from high street shops. no problems at all, why would there be? they test them all before selling them anyway.

They might test them before selling, but the certainly don't test them when buying from people. So it's best to be careful and ask to check the disc :D

I pretty much buy everything second hand Games movies etc. There is a few things I'll buy new such as consoles and controllers or a game I've been hyped about for months but pretty much everything else second hand.

I just picked up two BluRays today on a two for £20 from Blockbuster. They were Zombie Land and Paranormal Activity. Which I thought was pretty good for two fairly new movies.

Second hand shops don't test games before selling but they normally offer excellent guarantee and do let you see the disks beforehand.

No issue with buying games used for me, can pick up some cracking bargains. Do be wary though and ask to inspect them before hand. I have never had a problem with broken or damaged discs untill recently. I was not so bothered first time, bargain copy of PGR3 for 99p but the disc was unreadable. Last time I was abit more peeved, Fifa 09 for £2.50. The disc was cracked from the center out in 3 or 4 places and caused the console to crash when loading. No supprise it was traded in. I can't complain about getting it changed though, no issue at all with getting it replaced. I do seriously wonder what some people actually do with there games to get them in such crap states.
