Does anyone regularly buy used games?

It's Very rare for me to buy a New game, Recently I bought the Limited Ed version of Forza 3 but that's the only game I've bought on day of release since BF2. (If my memory serves me correctly)

I have brought some pre-owned games, mostly games I have looked at upon release and thought "Hmmmm" so I've left them alone initially.

The only games I but brand new are new releases I just don't want to wait for which is mostly all of my recent purchases, I only tend to look at older titles that have been out a while when the game market goes a little quiet, so far this year it hasn't done that yet for me anyway.

I've had a few duff pre-owned games, had The Godfather and had to return 2 copies as the centre of the disc started to break up ... 3rd copy was all ok, but other than that I've had no problems.

Stu

P.S. Just check any disc before you leave the store now I do, saves a return journey ;)

sure, if you are looking for 2nd hand games that have only just been released. i go for slightly older ones and have got some fantastic bargains because of it.

No - I think the statement is true of most retail stores prices across all second-hand games.

You can get the odd bargain and more so on older titles, but generally the prices just can't compete with online or the price pressure that sees several new titles plummet in price so quickly. Retail chains are greedy in pricing up of second-hand stock too. Only a few weeks ago in a London store I saw Dragon Age: Origins on 360 for £28. It's been widely doing the rounds for £15-ish online.

Buying second hand doesn't necessarily mean buying from a store though. I often buy games from the members market on this forum and have gotten some excellent bargains, one such example would be Dead Space for £10 when it was still retailing at around £25 new with most on-line stores.

and i bought mass effect for a tenner...and dead space...and quite a few other games actually. you can walk in to the 3 top stores with regards to 2nd hand games and you can bet your right testicle they'll have deals on the games- 2 for £30 for example. I can't agree with what you're saying, sorry. Unless you're looking for new releases, there are always bargains to be had and they arent exactly hard to find.

i only buy NEW big titles i.e mw2, bc2, ect

i have 100+ 360 games and i would say i have payed full price on 5 max
the rest have been cheap as chips not more then 20 quid -- if not 2 for £30
in gamestation:p:D

I tend to buy second hand games when I know they cant be had for cheaper and i want to play them without forking out full price. I dont know why I bother looking in game stores and the like's 2nd hand section because more often than not their 2nd hand prices are worse than the bargains you can get on the internet.

Patience is obviously a virtue these days because new games drop from full price quite sharply. :)

Again I still think my original statement is true in that I don't agree with your definition of a 'bargain', or at least the examples you've given don't back that up.

See I bought Dead Space for a tenner, delivered to my door, NEW off an online store back in August last year (Just checked the receipt 27th Aug). So in that example I'd expect the used item to be significantly less (this is subjective) to be declared a bargain.

With supermarket, auction sites, online new prices & private sellers - the prices from high street retailers selling second-hand games aren't always that compelling. Of course there will be some reasonable prices or offers.

Finally I'd never bet what you're prepared to throw on the line. Surely there's something less painful to bet?...:p

you got one game for a cheap price...is that all? your experiences dont exactly tally up with anybody elses do they?

anyway, you keep insisting that cheap games arent available wand we'll keep buying them.

you're alone on that one :)

Erm...I just responded to your example of £10 for used Dead Space being a bargain, when I got it for the same price new. Your first two sentences are missing the point I made.

Ultimately you clearly disagree with an aspect of a point I posted but I'm not sure that means I'm on my own :p

Anyway in summary - yes I've bought second-hand games, and there are many bargains out there (just not always in high street retail stores).

No chance.

MW2 £44 brand new PS3

Pre owned £37.99

Uncharted 2 new £34.99

Pre owned £29.99

Assassins Creed 2 £24 (£44 i think)

Heavenly Sword £10 (£34)

Valykrie Chronicles £25 (£44)

dont buy too many games. The ones i bought at full RRP are Heavy Rain, MGS4, FIFA 10 (though i did get money off trading in fifa09)

What i'll do is buy maybe 1 new full price game and then buy the new games from the previous couple of month pre-owned/used.

Supermarkets have some really good deals on console games. I suppose they are the biggest companies that sell games. Well, Tesco sell them and there isn't many bigger retailers than Tesco. It's the only place I've ever seen new release games for half-price or ~£15 off. I remember COD:MW2 for £25.99 on release day. Most shops wanted £44.99 but you could get it for £39.99 at some places.

Just bought Bioshock 2 for £16 preowned. Seemed like a good deal.

Bioshock 2 is pretty good. I kinda ruined it though by deciding it would be a good idea to blast through Bioshock 1 the week before 2 was released and so played them both back to back. I hadn't played the first one since release.
