Hi i've been browsing the forums for the last month and I think I have put together a decent build (for my budget), but would like to run it past you guys before I order.

I will be running a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
My main Windows activities will be Cubase, Reason 4 and Photoshop.
I will use Ubuntu for browsing ect.
I already have a lg dvd rw dl (sata) and a 500GB sata hardrive.
I'll be using my old GeForce 7300 graphics card until next month when i'll probably get a ATI HD 5770 Series. (Depending on what ones are on special offer)

Ok I think that covers everything. If you need any more info let me know. Will hopefully order this tonight.
Thanks.

Everything looks great man, you may want to get the black version of that hard drive as it is faster, and also might need a few case fans.

I think the green is being used as just a storage drive?

He does say he's got a 500gb sata drive, maybe that's the main C: drive.

Thanks for answering so quickly, I will order some more fans when I get the new graphics card next pay day. Im not sure whether I need 140mm or 120mm ones or both? I'll swap the Green for the black hard drive now.

Nice.

And good spec.

Have you considered one of the Phenom II X6 processors??

Even though Linux drivers have improved for ATI cards it is still work looking at an Nvidia card.

The best place to check first would be phoronix and its graphics card forum:

If you don't intend to game or use GPU accelerated software then a HD5770 would be a waste TBH.

My last few builds have been amd so I wanted to go for an intel this time, unless these new x6 processors are that good? I will play games every now and then so i wanted a half decent card, what would be a decent nvidia card? Must have hdmi.

Sorry should have been clearer, the new drive will be the C: drive.

There is no CHEAP nvidia alternative.

The 470gtx is £100 more than a ati 5850, the 480gtx is £100 more than a 5870.

And yes, a black drive will be excellent as the main drive.

There is no decent nvidia alternative to a 5770, which isn't a waste.

Ok so i'll have a rethink on the graphics card (at the end of the month). Snd I have swapped the green for a black. I think its good to go then.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Yup everything looks good to go man, I'm looking at building something really close to that, same case and all so let me now how it goes :D.

Ok its all arrived this afternoon. :) Im gonna start putting it all together this evening. Am I right in thinking that I install the psu with the fan pointing downwards?

Ok im halfway through putting all this together, just got a few questions.

I have 2 sata harddrives, a 500gb one thats mostlly full and is for storage and i have the new western digital black thats gonna be my main c: drive. Do I plug both these into the 6gb sata slots or the normal ones?

Can someone help me out , do I plug my 2 harddrives into the normal sata slots or into the 6gb ones? thanks.

edit: am I right in thinking that its only ssd drives that use the 6gb sata port?
