anyone else have this card? How is it?

Asus Xonar D1 7.1 Soundcard - PCI Connection

I currently have a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Soundcard.

It was okay when i first got it,But Creative must have got real lazy lately and are throwing our crappy drivers for it...ever since Vista came out ive had driver issues, and now im on windows 7 and still have audio issues so ive had enough.

So yeah if anyone has that Asus soundcard let me know what you think?

Btw my speaker system is a Logitech X-540 (5.1)

I have it, drivers installed fine, windows 7 aswell, definatly better than the onboard, loads of cool settings to mess with, had it two weeks now and not had any trouble with it, well apart from getting the correct settings for my headphones, as I have Roccat kave 5.1 headphones, the dolby headphone setting dosnt work with them which is quite obvious as they are allready 5.1, and don't need it.

Hey thanks for replying,

Whats the sound quality like? Im looking for better sounds in Bad Company 2..atm i not hearing half the noises because of dodgy drivers....doesnt matter what settings i try in the Creative console settings. :/

I've got problems with bfbc2, I dont hear mcom sirens anymore, but it was like this with onboard sound as well, so maybe it's just a random bug, sounds good though, weapons sound much crisper now, it could be that I set 6 speaker count in the settings file in bfbc2 folder, but to be honest everything else is good so I'm not too fussed

i have one too - sound quality is exceptional. i'm sure you'll be very pleased with it.

I have the Xonar DX (the PCI-E version) and the sound quality is excellent. Also really good 3D virtualisation on stereo headphones.

Am selling my DX though for a D1 as I need to free my second PCI-E x16 slot on my motherboard.

Just realised theres a settings notepad in my documents for BC2...looked in it and speaker count was set to 0.? :D..ive set it to 5.1 and il see if that makes any diffrence....i also cant hear mcom.

Shame its a Pci-e x16 and not Pci-x1 or id have brought that off you if you were selling it,But i dont have a spare x16 pci-e.

if you set speaker count to 6 that will be 5.1

PCIe Xonar cards will fit into all PCIe slots, 1x 4x 8x and 16x.

The Xtreme Audio is a repackaged Audigy SE, which uses a cheaper version of the chip used in the original Audigy. The Audigy is a 9 year old card roughly, so the Xtreme Audio should be soundly beaten for quality.

+1 here, got a D1 a month or so back, lovely card. Highs & lows are crisp and vibrant Im hearing things in music i never heard before! Made me listen to my whole cd collection again - about a quarter through :p

In games it kicks ass too, great positional even with the dolby headphone.

It isn't, it's a x1, just I only have one PCI-E slot left on my motherboard, which is a x16, and thus limits my graphics card, hence why I'm getting the D1.

Am selling it though...

I put in a D1 yesterday and I consider it to be an excellent investment.

Smashes onboard and the Ipod (to amp). No problems in games either, infact I think having this dedicated card has contributed to smoother gameplay.

Make sure you update to the latest drivers from Asus, because the drivers on the CD are the first release.

Speaking of 1st release drivers on a CD. It reminded me of the driver CD that came with my Xonar DS. It had no drivers at all on it, just full of MP3 files with Americans speaking about elocution. Way to go Asus. :p
