Hi guys

Formatted and did a clean install of Win7 today on my Dell Studio 15 which I got in Dec 09. All went smoothly until I restarted after some install of software. Getting these errors on bootup now and then can't get past them :(

Any ideas?

What did you install?

Just read a link on google suggesting malware, but I'd say that's unlikely..

Could be a dodgy windows update? if you did any updates at all that is.

If not i'd Test all your hardware mate.

Thanks for the responses. If I'm honest I was getting occasional blue screens after the laptop overheats, the air vent is located right under the laptop so if I've got a few applications open and my laptop is on a bed it will shutdown. Once I turn it on straight after it will blue screen. I have to give it a few mins to cool down.

I have no idea if this related.

What do you suggest I try in finding the problem? The laptop has let me in now but still randomly shuts down so something isn't right. The temps seems ok too.

I'd definitely check the RAM, although it could be something you installed - antivirus? The error code is suggesting a failed memory write operation.

I only installed a few drivers for the actual laptop and Windows did install some updates.

Can I remove these updates?

Can't think of anything it can be.

It's a case of narrowing down the problem really. I personally would run memtest and chkdsk to see if the memory or hard disk are causing trouble and then take it from there. What drivers did you install? And is it a clean OS install or an OEM recovery with all the Dell cr@p on it?

I had a client with an old, old, Evesham laptop and that kept overheating and a good clean out of the fans with an old tooth brush and some compressed air seemed to cure that.

Although, a memtest wouldn't be a bad idea, nor would a spyware/malware scan just as a last resort as some sites are suggesting that in a few similar instances.

Chkdsk and a memtest are a good start. It's possible that it overheated and has caused damage but I hope for your sake that isn't the case...

if its not too much hassle bud i'd suggest reformatting, and see how it goes
without any drivers installed or allowing windows to do any updates.

If you're unsure of the stability, I'd load up a linux mint or ubuntu live cd, see if that causes a crash..

Is the fan clogged with dust?

I had a similar case with a friend's laptop used to get random BSODs and get really hot. I just cleaned the fan with a paintbrush and compressed air and it fixed the BSODs.

My bet would be either display drivers (can you use last good configuration or a restore point?) or something thats changed the disc interface/boot - you haven't by any chance changed the AHCI settings in the BIOS?

Tho most of the info I can find online seems to suggest that stop error is most likely caused by an incomplete/interupted installation of a windows update component or service pack update.
