Don't dismiss Labour

There's nothing wrong with wanting to align classes more, but do it by raising the poor's standard of life, not dragging the wealthy down. The wealthy can always leave, and that makes it even worse for the poor.

Thatcher killed of most of our manufacturing industry, in the belief that this country could survive on the basis of the City and service industries.

Brown has been content to follow this model until the financial crisis struck, at which time he blamed the bankers (forgetting that he's been quite content to let British industry go to the wall).

I hold both the Tories and Labour responsible for the mess we're currently in, and so will have to vote for one of the others - probably Lib Dem, though without much enthusiasm.

hmm interesting reactions all round, i wonder whether there was this level of vehemence in 1997 to get the Tories out....

...or whether many here remember what it was like to live under the Tory administration under Thatcher

until we have a representational voting system, this country will always have its hind legs stuck in a quasi-feudal Victorian loop between these crooks of many colours :(

In my constituency Labour are enjoying their last night of control.

Tomorrow they're going to get spanked, present Labour councillor has just "retired" (read as ran before she got creamed).

Labour have created a social revolution, they have almost eradiated the class system, have introduted the minimum wage, allowed evolutions, improved the NHS.

Also,

They have wrecked law and order, brought the UK to the brink of bankruptcy, almost throttled enterprise with punitive taxation, shafted hard working taxpayers for 13 years, done nothing to stop open door immigration, introduced the most knee jerk legislative in history, presided over the worst foreign policy in years, stripped police officers of common sense disretionary judgement, trampled on civil liberties as if it were free.

As for middle classes, Gordon Brown does mention them quite a lot when talking about the Conservatives removing a child trust voucher from them despite them being a wedge of voters who have been royally shafted by the Blair/Brown circus.

They have poured money into a unreformed NHS and not improved it much, if at all.

As you may have guessed by now, I would rather attend a United Against Facism meet while dressed as Hitler than vote for the utter shower that is New Labour.

They did ban smoking in pubs though. Thanks Tony and ordon.

Don't believe all the papers say, they have their own agenda, ie making money, they will go with what they think is the popular vote whether it is morally right or wrong, they are about money and power only, such as the likes of rupert murdoch = greed and grudge.

:)

Labour have created a social revolution, they have almost eradiated the class system, have introduted the minimum wage, allowed evolutions, improved the NHS.

Don't blame the recession on them, it was american bankers/estate agents that sold the world valueless goods that initially cuased the problem. We may have suffered heavly as labour spent generously/wisley/fairlyl on public services but we did not initialize it.

Now Gordon Brown has been fighting the blairelites for some time and this has worn him down and i am not suprised - they are a determined bunch but they are useless without blair whoo he has run his charming course.

I believe Gordon Brown is one of the most morally conscious men ever to walk the walk on this greath union.

It was the corrupt unions that killed off British industry, a product of Harold Wilson.

Ring bells at all?

**** Labour. Bunch of incompetent *******.

Anyone who votes Labour is a complete and utter moron, or has become dependant on the ridiculous welfare trap we have in this country.

I ******* hate Labour.

No she didn't, they were already dead. Thatcher just turned off the life support on the dead bits. (We're still the 6th or 7th biggest manufacturer in the world by value incidentally).

Perhaps if we hadn't been obsessed with nationalisation and welfare jobs then it might have been different.

Brown has been content to follow this model until the financial crisis struck, at which time he blamed the bankers (forgetting that he's been quite content to let British industry go to the wall).

Brown killed a lot of things during his time as chancellor due to his attacks and raids on business, and then hid it with public sector spending, which is the attitude that caused the death of manufacturing, ie the creation of welfare jobs.

So do I, although the tories I hold responsible for not making it impossible for Labour to screw things up in the same way as they did before.

Darling has the financial knowledge of a rock with Downs Syndrome.

Quoted for truth, lols and genius!!!

I agree with the OP.

Do people really think DC is for the common man, get real.

So tell me, under the 13 years of labour they've abolished the 10% tax rate, put national insurance up, stamp duty, petrol, car tax, council tax and a dozen other stealth taxes I cannot be bothered to think off, (Passports for example).

Something like 87p in every pound you earn now goes to the government.

In return for this hideous taxation, unemployment is through the roof, we're fighting a war we didn't want to, we're more signed up to the EU than ever (against popular opinion), the NHS has 4 bureaucrats to every nurse & doctor, same the the police and schools, health & safety is strangling small & medium size businesses, introduced mass immigration, the rich are leaving for lower taxed countries, knife crime drugs and gang related violence is through the roof, our economy was one of the worst effect by the recession and one of the slowest to recover and we are officially the most watched and tracked nation on the planet.

Put your Tory prejudices aside and explain to me why Labour is good for the 'common' man, how they've managed to improve the country in the last 13 years and why the Tories wouldn't do a good job.

This goes for OP as well.

Yep, in the past, there is no need for them any more, you guys need a party standing up for the standard family, not one redirecting more of the average persons money to the poor and lazy ( 2 different groups).

I am proud that I was never fooled by this sham of a party in '97. The main vehemance you allude to concerned the sexual preferences of Tory MP's mainly. I still believe that NuLabour came to power in '97 by shouting "TORY SLEAZE!" at the media enough times to fool people into believing it was an important issue.
Yes, I remember what it was to live under Thatcher quite well thank you, and I still remember it as a good time in between the nation destroying periods of the Labour party. Maybe you should ask people if they remember what it was like to live under bankrupt Labour in the '70s before you ask about the nationally economically succesful Tory rule in the '80s? Seems like we've hit another bankrupt time under Labour again with high taxes, no cash reserves, regular strikes, a forthcoming trip to the IMF AGAIN looking possible.
3 cheers for spendthrift Labour AGAIN...

RDIT: Also Labour have stopped being the self proclaimed party of the working man to become the party of the NON working man!

by giving £3 a week to people that are married/civil partners...wow thats not a massive waste of money just to show they like families.I am of course assuming that comment was supporting the torys

Bloody good post. Just a shame so many morons hold stupid views about the tories. Labour have proven that they are nothing but bad for the common man. But still at least GB didn't go to Eton
