Artic Cooling 5970 cooler available

I can see both sides of this, interestingly one guy has thrown up pictures which show he did not follow the instructions as he removed the backplate, my copy of the instructions specifically states not to do this.

However there must be a limited number of people with this card/cooler at the moment and 3 failures is worrying.

I mailed AC yesterday for advice, no response received so far.

thats fair enough, I may be a lucky one without a problem and it could be a batch that have gone out with something not right on them.

but again these people could have just fluffed the install, at the end of the day its about being willing to take a chance .
even if 100 people say its fine it still does not mean you will not have any problems .

my way of thinking is that If i am in 2 minds or not sure then I dont bother .

also i found it impossible to not remove the backplate as once all the screws are removed there is nothing holding it in place. so i just had to make sure it was alligned properly when fitting it back on.

good for you mate, yeah i got the shirt but its large so would be way too big for me ha ha ha!

just keep checking no dust etc is on any chip and use thermal surface polish to ensure each chip is as clean as can be. some of the old compound is quite powdery too so make sure you get it off the board if it gets on especially around one of the VRM chips (use a clean small paint brush maybe) oh and there are two lengths of themal pads that are the same but one is thicker, the thicker one does not go on the VRMs looking at the instructions and this is how i did it.

oh and the instruction dont actually say you have to remove all the screws on the back of the card but you do and also there are 2 screws where the DVI porst are hold the old cooler in place.

good luck and let us know how you get on.

and put the fans upto 100% you wont hear a thing and it will keep nice and cool

Will post some pics of before, after and installation process when I do it. ONly thing is its a thursday night which is usually a casino drinking session for us lot lol think I will avoid that tonight else ill end up putting the card on upside down ;)

well perhaps you could fit it first and then go to the casino and win some more money to get a second card for crossfire!

Already have crossfire. I was goin gto watercool both gpu's because they get so hot but thought I would test this cooler out 1st. If it does the job will get another cooler for my 5870 which is in the machine.

Well I have decided to go with my watercooling after all and not even opened the Artic Cooler lol. Anyone interested in buying one cheaper than normal let me know.
