Theres so many models out there Im completely lost. Whats the differences between them? Desire, HD2, Bravo, Hero, Magic, all getting a bit confusing for me :(

well, the Desire is pure awesome and runs android 2.1, HD2 is slightly bigger screen then the desire but runs windows mobile 6.5. the hero is a slightly less powered desire.

Just buy a Desire

From what I hear the HD2 is an absolute beast of a phone also though. I have a desire though.

If you're not impatient, wait a month or so and see what apple comes out with before making your decision?

Hero and Magic are the same phones, just the Hero has more RAM and uses Sense UI on top of Android. Having owned a Magic for six months before switching to a Nexus, you really don't want to be using a first generation Android phone, so the Desire or the Nexus are the best right now.

Wait for Apple? why so they can release yet another piece of hardware which is below spec compared to every other smart phone and will inevitable miss some essential features.

Main rumours so far for iPhone 4, a slightly higher resolution (about time.) and a front facing camera. But theres more! the iphone can now multitask!!! (wont point out that my first XDA about 6 years ago could do this.)

Is Android that much better than Windows Mobile? I like the HD2 and I heard an upgrade to Windows Mobile 7 is due (or out already?).

wm 7 isn't out yet that I'm aware of, the hd2 wouldn't officially be getting the update but I'm sure the people over at xda forums will be releasing custom roms for it. would be nice if they release something for the hd so as well but not sure if it'll work on the hd(I've got the desire now but have a hd with a wm 6.5 dutty rom, would like a play with wm 7).

There's the Legend too. Picked mine up yesterday, nice little phone so far.

It's the 'replacement' for the Hero and as such has a slightly better spec and runs 2.1.

im playing about with a Samsung Galaxy i7500 the now as my cousin wants me to ebay it. Im enjoying it but its not swaying me completly. I think its on android 1.5? is the desire allot different to this?

The Desire is in a different league, take most of the specs of the i7500 and double them and those are the Desire specs

Is £350 delivered a good price to pay for a brand new Desire unlocked?

£350 isn't bad, you might find it slightly cheaper if you really try, but most are selling for more than that

Do UK phones work over there, are they the same bands? Can say I've ever been there, so wouldn't know

Yep they work here with no problems. Australia is a complete rip off for electronics and many Australians (that I know) buy from the UK, Hong Kong, USA etc because it works out cheaper.

My main issue with Windows Mobile 7 is simply the features that have been pulled since 6.5, it has been completely dumbed down for a stereotype "end user"

Some of the removed features, main ones worth noting:

lack of flash (possibly updated later but still, not good enough)
no multitasking, applications pause will background running

Interesting, cheers. Android is looking more appealing to me.
